The Determination of Iodine Species in Environmental and Biological Samples
نویسنده
چکیده
Iodine is found in organic forms in plants and animals and in inorganic forms in natural water samples. Methods of identification and quantitative determination for iodine species are decided by the types of compound and the matrices in which they occur. Iodine is an essential element and specific radioimmunoassay methods have been devised for physiologically important compounds (thyroxine and related compounds) in which it is found. In addition, marine plants and animals have provided a rich source of varied and unexpected organic iodine compounds that occur, along with other organic halogen compounds, as secondary metabolites. Natural waters, particularly marine waters contain iodine chiefly in the forms of iodide and iodate. Organic iodine compounds in biological samples have been identified by classical natural products chemical techniques following their isolation, and by modem spectroscopic methods. Routine analysis of such compounds can be done by gas chromatography (GC) and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Analysis of inorganic iodine species in waters is carried out by catalytic, electrochemical and spectrometric methods and by GC; possibly HPLC inductively coupled-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) might be the method of choice in the future.

Determination and study the fatty acid contents and their seasonal variations by temperature of a dominant bivalve(Callista umbonella) of Haleh Creek
In this study fatty acid contents, because of the importance in human’s life, and their seasonal variations of a dominant bivalve of Haleh Creek were determined for the first time. Fatty acid identification was done by GC-MS (Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry) method. After collecting and dissecting the species from the shells, samples weighed and frozen for further experiments. All the samp...

Radioactive isotopes of iodine are themost common radiological toxins from nuclear accidents due to their high release and high enrichment in human thyroid. Among the radioactive isotopes, long-lived I can not only be used for the estimation of the radioactive risk of short-lived radioactive isotopes of iodine to humans and ecosystems, but also for the investigation of the biogeochemical cycle ...
متن کاملIodine Determination in Raw Cow's Milk in Iran
Iodine is an essential trace element in the human diet. The following work presents the latest information concerned with iodine determination in raw milk, in Iran. Iodine content of milk was determined by Sandell-Kolthoff method where the samples were taken from Holstein dairy cows, in Shahrkord, the central part of Iran. Thirty six samples were taken from transportation tanks in semi industri...

متن کاملSpectrophotometric determination of arsenic in environmental and biological samples
A simple and sensitive spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of arsenic using variamine blue as a chromogenic reagent. The method is based on the reaction of arsenic(III) with potassium iodate in acid medium to liberate iodine, which oxidizes variamine blue to form a violet coloured species having an absorption maximum at 556 nm. Beer’s law is obeyed in the range 0....
