چکیده
Received November 2008 Accepted April 2009 INTRODUCTION Giant arteriovenous fistulas (AVF) pose a challenging management problem with respect to open surgery versus endovascular interventional techniques. Endovascular techniques may not be ideal for larger fistulas and may be associated with potential risks of embolism, whilst open surgery poses the risk of uncontrollable hemorrhage.(1,2) We describe a safe surgical technique for this challenging problem.

Surgical management of giant aneurysms complicating arteriovenous fistulae.
The creation of an arteriovenous fistula (AVF) is frequently used to achieve easier access for haemodialysis in patients with chronic renal insufficiency. The most frequent late complication of AVFs is aneurysm formation, which carries the risk of spontaneous rupture. This study reports on 18 patients with giant aneurysms that developed on antebrachial AVFs who were operated on over a period of...
متن کاملGiant aneurysm of an endogenous arteriovenous fistula.
A 56-year-old man with a history of kidney transplantation was admitted to our institution for an acute swelling of his right forearm. Clinical examination revealed an enormous aneurysm (3 3.5 inch) of the radiocephalic arteriovenous fistula as shown in the figure. Ultrasonography revealed a large circumferential thrombus. A surgical procedure was performed, allowing thrombectomy and the defini...
متن کاملIntracranial Pial Arteriovenous Fistula Mimicking a Vein of Galen Aneurysm with Hydrocephalus Managed with Endovascular Method: Case Report
Background and Importance: Intracranial pial arteriovenous fistula is a recently described matter as a rare vascular malformation occurring in children. It is usually located in the subpial space in the intracranial cavity with a high-flow shunt. Case Presentation: Authors report on a 2-year-old child with intracranial pial arteriovenous fistula and progressive enlargement of he...
متن کاملPial Arteriovenous Fistula with Giant Varices: Report of Two Cases with Good Surgical Outcome
Pial arteriovenous fistulas (pAVF) are rare vascular lesions consisting of one or more arterial connections to a single venous channel without any intervening nidus of vessels or capillaries. Case 1: A 65-year-old woman with a complaint of headache and left hand paresthesia was referred to us. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a large saccular lesion with signal void in the posterior part of th...
متن کاملCerebrovascular occlusion by catheterization and embolization: clinical experience.
Intravascular occlusion by various catheterization techniques was used to treat 27 cases of carotid-cavernous fistula, giant intracavernous aneurysm, and cerebral or dural arteriovenous malformation. Several case reports are presented. The detachable balloon technique proved valuable in the treatment of traumatic carotid-cavernous fistula and giant aneurysm. Calibrated-leak balloon catheterizat...
