Sex, Sox, and splicing

چکیده
ammalian sex-determining factors with homology to DNA binding proteins are required for splicing, according to a study by Paolo SassoneCorsi and coworkers at the Université Louis Pasteur (Strasbourg, France). Examination of high mobility group (HMG) domain containing SRY and Sox proteins demonstrated a surprising but clear association with splicing complexes. SRY, the testis-determining factor found on the Y-chromosome in mice and humans, is one of several Sox family members involved in sexual development. It is known to bind DNA, in support of the proposal that HMG domain proteins act as architectural facilitators for building transcription M

A direct role of SRY and SOX proteins in pre-mRNA splicing.
The mammalian testis determining factor SRY and its related Sox factors are critical developmental regulators. They share significant similarity in their high mobility group (HMG) domain and display discrete patterns of tissue-specific expression. Here we show that SRY and the Sox protein SOX6 colocalize with splicing factors in the nucleus and are dynamically redistributed following the blocka...

متن کاملP-106: Comparative Expression of The Stemness Gene Oct-4, Nanog, Sox-2 and Rex-1 in Normal Endometrium and in Endometriosis
Background Endometriosis is a gynecological disease defined as the presence of endometrial tissue outside the uterine cavity, which caused by various factors. Recent evidences support the presence of endometrial stem cells and their possible involvement in endometriosis. Related studies mainly focus on stemness-related genes, and pluripotency markers may play a role in the etiology of endometri...
متن کاملSOX15 and other SOX family members are important mediators of tumorigenesis in multiple cancer types
SOX genes are transcription factors with important roles in embryonic development and carcinogenesis. The SOX family of 20 genes is responsible for regulating lineage and tissue specific gene expression patterns, controlling numerous developmental processes including cell differentiation, sex determination, and organogenesis. As is the case with many genes involved in regulating development, SO...
