چکیده

The interplay of disorder and spin-fluctuation effects in a disordered antiferromagnet is studied. In the weak-disorder regime (W<U), while the energy gap decreases rapidly with disorder, the sublattice magnetization, including quantum corrections, is found to remain essentially unchanged in the strong correlation limit. Magnon energies and Néel temperature are enhanced by disorder in this limit. A single paradigm of disorderenhanced delocalization qualitatively accounts for all these weak disorder effects. Vertex corrections and magnon damping, which appear only at order (W/U), are also studied. With increasing disorder a crossover is found at W;U , characterized by a rapid decrease in sublattice magnetization due to quenching of local moments, and formation of spin vacancies. The latter suggests a spin-dilution behavior that is indeed observed in softened magnon modes, lowering of Néel temperature, and enhanced transverse spin fluctuations. @S0163-1829~98!00137-4#

Spin-glass transition in bond-disordered Heisenberg antiferromagnets coupled with local lattice distortions on a pyrochlore lattice.

Motivated by puzzling characteristics of spin-glass transitions widely observed in pyrochlore-based frustrated materials, we investigate the effects of coupling to local lattice distortions in a bond-disordered antiferromagnet on the pyrochlore lattice by extensive Monte Carlo simulations. We show that the spin-glass transition temperature T(f) is largely enhanced by the spin-lattice coupling a...

The role of quench rate in colloidal gels.

Interactions between colloidal particles have hitherto usually been fixed by the suspension composition. Recent experimental developments now enable the control of interactions in situ. Here we use Brownian dynamics simulations to investigate the effect of controlling interactions upon gelation, by "quenching" the system from an equilibrium fluid to a gel. We find that, contrary to the normal c...

Localization and the Kosterlitz-Thouless transition in disordered graphene.

We investigate disordered graphene with strong long-range impurities. Contrary to the common belief that delocalization should persist in such a system against any disorder, as the system is expected to be equivalent to a disordered two-dimensional Dirac fermionic system, we find that states near the Dirac points are localized for sufficiently strong disorder (therefore inevitable intervalley s...

SEMICONDUCTOR TO TRANSITION IN FeS

Summarised here are the conclusions of an investigation by differential thermal analysis, magnetic susceptibility, Mossbauer spectroscopy, electrical conductivity and thermoelectric power on single crystal Fe0.996S. There is an increase in conductivity both parallel and perpendicular to the c-axis by a factor 102 at Ta (420 K). At low temperature the I. S. is characteristic of a non-metal but i...

The Ground State of the Spin-12 Kagomé Lattice Antiferromagnet: Neutron Scattering Studies of the Zinc-Paratacamite Mineral Family

The magnetic properties of the geometrically frustrated quantum magnets clinoatacamite, Cu2(OH)3Cl, and herbertsmithite, ZnCu3(OH)6Cl2, are studied by means of neutron scattering measurements as well as specific heat, susceptibility, and magnetization measurements. These materials are studied to investigate the nature of the ground state of the spin2 kagomé lattice antiferromagnet, as such a sy...
