Acute infection after retinal detachment surgery.

چکیده
Infection of silastic sponge implants after retinal detachment surgery continues to present a problem (Lincoff, Nadel and O'Connor, I970; Russo and Ruiz, I97I; Flindall, Norton, Curtin and Gass, I97I; Ruben and Fitzgerald, 1972). The widespread adoption of cryotherapy has changed the character of this infection from an acute syndrome with scleral abscess formation and intraocular signs, to that of an extraocular granuloma of later onset with minimal intraocular signs (Lincoff and others, I970). Our experience has been somewhat different, and in this paper we report a series of Io postoperative infections occurring within 2 weeks ofsurgery, seven ofwhich showed marked signs ofintraocular inflammation.

OUTPATIENT RETINAL DETACHMENT SURGERY: A PRELIMINARY REPORT
Retinal detachment surgery has been considered an inpatient hospital procedure requiring preoperative and postoperative hospitalization. In this pilot study, outpatient retinal detachment surgery was performed on sixteen patients and the results (100% success rate after an average follow-up of 8.3 months) were comparable or better than reported overall success rates for retinal detachment ...

BACKGROUND Scleral buckling is still a common procedure to repair rhematogenous retinal detachment, and acute or chronic infection of the scleral explant is rare. We report an intractable case of acute scleral explant infection by Pseudomonas aeruginosa. CASE A 36-year-old man suffered from acute scleral explant infection by P. aeruginosa forty-eight hours after scleral buckling for rhegmatog...
متن کاملInfection following retinal detachment surgery.
Since the introduction of gentamicin (given both as a soaked sponge and as an injection below Tenon's capsule at the end of surgery) no case of early infection either with or without intraocular signs after operation for retinal detachment has occurred in a series of 206 cases comprising 243 operations. However, late infection many months after operation has appeared in 3 cases (1-5%), though t...

متن کاملUnusual presentation of residual subretinal fluid composition after surgery for acute rhegmatogenous retinal detachment
The purpose of this paper is to report an unusual case of accumulation of residual subretinal fluid after surgery for acute rhegmatogenous retinal detachment, sparing the fovea. A 28-year-old male presented with a four-day history of acute visual loss in his right eye secondary to bulbous rhegmatogenous retinal detachment, sparing the fovea. The patient underwent an uneventful pars plana vitrec...
