Particle masses and the fifth dimension
نویسنده
چکیده
First we argue in an informal, qualitative way that it is natural to enlarge space-time to five dimensions to be able to solve the problem of elementary particle masses. Several criteria are developed for the success of this program. Extending the Poincaré group to the group C of all angle-preserving transformations of space-time is one such scheme which satisfies these criteria. Then we show that the field equation for spin 1/2 fermions coupled to a self-force gauge field predicts mass spectra of the desired type: for a certain range of a key parameter (Casimir invariant) a three-point mass spectrum which fits the “down” quarks d, s, and b to within their experimental bounds is obtained. Resonable values of the coupling constant (of QCD magnitude) and the range of the spatial wave function (a few fermis) also result.

P-163: Evaluation of Ovarian Masses in Shahid Sadoughi and Mother Hospital during 2008-2012
Background: Ovarian cancer is the fifth most common cancer in woman and the fifth most frequent cause of cancer death. Ovarian cancers are usually asymptomatic until metastasized, patients have advanced disease at diagnosis in more than 2/3 of the cases. Totally 75-80 % of ovarian masses are benign. The strongest patient related risk factor for ovarian cancer is increasing age. The most ovarian...

متن کاملLight Quark Masses from Quenched Lattice Qcd Simulations with Domain Wall Quarks∗
The light quark masses are fundamental parameters of the Standard Model and, as such, must be determined more precisely in order to increase its predictive power. Lattice QCD can play an important role in computing the quark masses, as it already has with the strong coupling constant. Recently it was shown that the new domain wall fermion discretization can be applied to this endeavor. This tal...
متن کاملFifth Force from Fifth Dimension
Using a novel coordinate system, we rederive the eld equations and equations of motion for 5-dimensional relativity in the general case where the metric can depend on all 5 coordinates (i.e., Kaluza-Klein theory without the cylinder restriction). We show that in general the fth dimension produces a new dynamical force in 4-dimensional spacetime. This timelike fth force is proportional to the 4-...
متن کاملQuark masses using domain wall fermions ∗
Due to the attractive features that domain wall fermions possess with respect to chiral symmetry, we continue our investigation of the light quark masses with this discretization. Achieving reliable results, especially for (mu +md)/2, requires strict control of systematic uncertainties. Our present results were obtained on a quenched β = 6.0 lattice with spatial volume ≈ (1.5 fm). Consequently ...
