Bridging paradigms: Spatial hypertext in a document world
نویسنده
چکیده
Introduction Spatial hypertext has arisen from overview “map” representations of conventional nodeand-link hypertexts (Shipman and Marshall, 1999). These spatial representations (e.g., Streitz et al., 1989; Marshall and Shipman, 1995; Shipman et al., 2001), can be used to model abstract relationships, encoding them using a variety of visual attributes such as relative or absolute position, size, color, shading, etc. Each node in such a data structure represents one or more objects.

Spatial Hypertext on the Small Screen
Spatial hypertext supports the organization of documents in an electronic medium. In this paper we identify the value of effective spatial hypertexts within limited visual workspaces. We briefly review existing paradigms of visual workspace used in spatial hypertext and related systems and their suitability for situations where screen estate is limited. Our existing research in small-screen con...

Hypertexts, both interpretive and critical, are formed around the texts, and they play a significant role in the dissemination, consolidation or distortion of the organized knowledge order. Therefore, even those hypertexts formed out of sympathy or empathy cannot be overlooked. A Little Rude, Much Courteous in Mathnavi, as a hypertext has described and interpreted a number of subjects in Mathna...
متن کاملInteractive Information Services Using World-Wide Web Hypertext
Most World-Wide Web information servers provide simple browsing access to collections of static text or hypertext files. This paper describes some interactive World-Wide Web servers that produce information displays and documents dynamically rather than just providing access to static files. The PARC Map Viewer uses a geographic database to create and display maps of any part of the world on de...
متن کاملIntegrating information seeking and structuring: exploring the role of spatial hypertexts in a Digital Library
This paper presents Garnet, a novel spatial hypertext interface to a digital library. Garnet supports both information structuring – via spatial hypertext – and traditional information seeking – via a digital library. A user study of Garnet is reported, together with an analysis of how the organizing work done by users in a spatial hypertext workspace could support later information seeking. Th...
متن کاملCombining Browsing and Searching
We discuss how to combine on-line searching with browsing. Currently, these two paradigms are almost always separate, and users must choose between them. We have developed software that allows users to browse a hypertext-based information base and to search from any point while browsing such that the search will be limited to the area suggested by the current document. We describe the design an...
