چکیده

concurrent infection with Torulopsis glabrata in a dog. Predisposing factors included a history of chronic skin disease of obscure origin treated with antibiotics and/or corticosteroids for 6 months. Laboratory findings, sebaceous gland atrophy, epidermal atrophy, and epidermal hyperkeratosis were all findings that were consistent with those of corticosteroid effects. The immune status of this dog was unknown, but immunosuppression due to prolonged corticosteroid therapy was likely. Although there was no history ofa puncture wound or other cutaneous trauma, the skin is the most probable site of origin of the infection, with subsequent hematogenous or lymphatic dissemination to other organs. Organisms compatible with T. glabrata were identified in lung sections, and T. glabrata was cultured from multiple sites. This infection may have represented a terminal fungemia in a dog with fatal primary disseminated phaeohyphomycosis.

Bartonella quintana in Cynomolgus Monkey (Macaca fascicularis)

We identified a Bartonella quintana strain by polymerase chain reaction amplification, cloning, and sequencing of DNA extracted from lysed erythrocytes and cultured colonies grown from peripheral blood collected from a captive-bred cynomolgus monkey (Macaca fascicularis). This report describes naturally acquired B. quintana infection in a nonhuman primate.

Physiological properties of retinal Müller glial cells from the cynomolgus monkey, Macaca fascicularis—a comparison to human Müller cells

Retinae from rabbits and laboratory rodents are often used as 'models' of the human retina, although there are anatomical differences. To test whether monkey eyes provide a better model, a physiological study of Muller glial cells was performed comparing isolated cells and retinal wholemounts from the cynomolgus monkey, Macaca fascicularis and from man. The membrane conductance of Muller cells ...

Comparison of cynomolgus and rhesus monkey kidney cells for recovery of viruses from clinical specimens.

In a study of virus recovery from clinical specimens, cynomolgus monkey kidney cells demonstrated sensitivity equivalent or slightly superior to rhesus kidney cells for siolation of myxo- and paramyxoviruses, adenoviruses, and enteroviruses.

The Incidence of Lymphoplasmacytic Gastritis in the Fundus and Antrum of Cynomolgus Monkey ( Macaca fascicularis ) Stomachs

Lymphoplasmacytic gastritis is a concern for toxicological pathologists reading preclinical, non-human primate toxicity studies because subtle gastric changes which could be treatment-related may be masked and gastritis lesions may be confused with treatment-related effects and thus a gastric finding may be incorrectly assigned as a treatment-related lesion. This paper discusses the incidence o...

Sciatic Nerve Neuropathy in Cynomolgus Monkey Macaca Fascicularis: Altered Leg Usage and Peripheral Nerve Firing

Sciatic nerve is susceptible to trauma and injuries. Animal models for sciatic nerve trauma are mostly in rodents, with limited information about injury-induced neuropathy in non-human primates. We constructed a model of sciatic nerve neuropathy (SNN) in the cynomolgus macaque monkey, Macaca fascicularis, with mild injury to, but without transection of, the sciatic nerve. Monkeys’ behavioral an...
