Anaesthesia and ophthalmology.

The element of control in modern anaesthesia is of special value in ophthalmology, where smooth operating conditions and a trouble-free respiratory period are obligatory. While this feature is of value in controlling bleeding, eye movements, and squeezing, the ability to control intra-ocular tension is of special significance. During operation chlorpromazine, promethazine and pethidine have been found valuable. In non-perforating injury treatment is by the use of posture, hexamethonium and sedation.
