چکیده

DiffServ policies have traditionally been applied to several types of Internet traffic like HTTP, FTP and CBR. DiffServ policies concerning HTTP traffic are commonly focused on preferential treatment of short flows, which are more sensitive to Internet delays and congestion, whereas long flows are penalized by the application of besteffort policies. This differentiation may produce low global performance of the system mainly caused by high penalization of long flows. In this paper we propose some DiffServ policies based on Token Bucket that realize preferential treatment of short flows but include a better bandwidth treatment profit and lower penalization of long flows, compared to previous policies described in the literature.

A Token Bucket Model with Assured Forwarding for Web Traffic

In this paper we present PLF (Promotion of Long Flows). PLF tries to promote web traffic using the Token Bucket Model in a DiffServ framework. This algorithm preserves the high priority for short flows but tries to allocate some long flows in the high priority class level, in order to improve some performance parameters of the long ones. Finally, we present PLFwp (Promotion of Long Flows with P...

Implementation of Differential Services Based on Priority, Token Bucket, round Robin Algorithms

The purpose of this paper is to analyze and compare the different tools being used in DiffServ (Differential services) which have been proposed for QoS (quality of services). Differentiated Services approach provides a way to control traffic that is more flexible and more scalable than the Quality of Service approach. In this paper, we analyze and compare the performance of metrics used in Diff...

Fair Stateless Aggregate Marking Techniques for Differentiated Services Networks

In heterogeneous networks such as today’s Internet, the differentiated services architecture for providing scalable service differentiation, has proved to be a practical and easily deployable method for providing Quality-of-Services. In this paper, we focus on the issue of packet marking in diffserv networks. We specifically look at developing fair aggregate markers which do not need to maintai...

A Feedback Mechanism for Mitigating Denial of Service Attacks against Differentiated Services Clients

Differentiated Service (DiffServ) networks provide Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees by policing traffic into a fixed number of pre-existing classes. DoS attacks against DiffServ clients will be more targeted and require less attack bandwidth than current attacks due to the per-client and per-class bandwidth limitations which must be imposed to ensure QoS guarantees. In this paper, we present...

A Simulation Study on the Relation of DiffServ Packet Level Mechanisms and Flow Level QoS Requirements

We deepen our previous analytical studies to include simulations, with special considerations on the effect that the metering mechanisms at the DiffServ boundary nodes have on differentiation. The two metering and marking mechanisms compared are token bucket and exponential weighted moving average (EWMA). The conjecture made in our analytical models is that the EWMA principle marks packets per ...
