We recognise the difficult challenge of identifying all cohort studies in the region. We wish however to mention several cohort studies in the Seychelles, Tanzania and Mauritius, which were published in leading medical journals but were not included in the review, although they met inclusion criteria set by the authors of the review. The Republic of Seychelles, which lies in the Indian Ocean around 1 000 km east of Kenya, belongs to south Saharan Africa. Seychelles is part of WHO AFRO, is a member of the South African Development Community (SADEC) and contributes epidemiological data to the Global Burden of Disease project for estimates of the east Africa region. The majority of the population of Seychelles is of African descent. In a cohort study of 5 514 Seychelles …

متن کاملAdolescent perspective on sexual debut in the South-West Indian Ocean: a regional study.
Although more and more reproductive health interventions in the South-West Indian Ocean, including those targeting adolescents, are performed on a regional basis, information on sexual initiation is scattered and difficult to compare. This study used unique qualitative data from 116 focus groups conducted in 2007 among in-school and out-of-school, younger and older, male and female adolescents ...

متن کاملPopulation Attributable Risk (PAR) of Hyperuricemia for Diabetes Mellitus in 20-74-Year-Old Population of Yazd during a 10-Year Longitudinal Cohort: Yazd Healthy Heart Cohort (YHHC) in Iran
Introduction: Taking into consideration the high impact of Diabetes Mellitus type II (DM II) on human's health, identification of risk factors to prevent its development seems essential. Further studies are needed to ensure the positive role of uric acid in the onset of diabetes. This study targeted at investigating the attributed risk of hyperuricemia for the onset of DM II. Methods: In the p...
