چکیده

Kidney cancer is the third most common malignancy of the genitourinary system account for 2 to 3 % of all cancers in men worldwide, with 130,000 new cases and 63,000 deaths from the disease occurring annually (Ferlay et al., 2004). Certain toxic chemicals and medicines can cause renal damage, are recognized as a toxicological problem. NNitrosodiethylamine (DENA) is the most important environmental carcinogen among the nitrosamines (Thirunavukkarasu and Sakthisekaran, 2001). DENA has been suggested to cause oxidative stress and cellular injury due to involvement of free radicals (Noguchi et al., 2000). Lipid peroxidation and associated membrane damage are key features of DENAinduced carcinogenesis (Anis et al., 2001). The antioxidant enzymes such as glutathione peroxidase, superoxide dismutase and catalase protect membrane and cytosolic components against damage caused by free radicals during carcinogenesis (Banakar et al., 2004). There are reports that oxygen free radicals and related lipid peroxides play a key role in the protection against exogenous oxidative stress and pathogenesis of age-related chronic degenerative diseases (Marklund and Marklund, 1974). Thus, antioxidants are expected to decrease the vulnerability of the kidney to oxidative challenges. Considerable experimental evidence has

Radioprotective and In-Vitro Cytotoxic Sapogenin from Euphorbia neriifolia (Euphorbiaceae) Leaf

Purpose: Euphorbia neriifolia Linn. (Euphorbiaceae) plant is traditionally used in the treatment of abdominal troubles, bronchitis, tumours, leucoderma, piles, inflammation, and enlargement of spleen. The objective of this study was to evaluate the antioxidant and anticancer activities of a sapogenin isolate of this plant. Methods: Euphol was isolated as a major constituent from the triterpenoi...

Psychopharmacological profile of hydro-alcoholic extract of Euphorbia neriifolia leaves in mice and rats.

The leaf extract of E. neriifolia significantly reduced apomorphine-induced stereotypy in mice at all doses (100, 200, 400 mg/kg body weight) in mice and rats and was devoid of catalepsic effect thereby, suggesting specific dopaminergic receptor modulating activity. The extract (400 mg/kg) potentiated pentobarbitone-induced hypnosis. It showed protection against maximal electro-shock-induced co...

Hepatoprotective activity of Euphorbia neriifolia against paracetamol induced hepatotoxicity in rats

The objective of the present study was to investigate the hepatoprotective activity of methanol extract of Euphorbia neriifolia (MEEN) against paracetamol induced hepatotoxicity. Hepatotoxicity was induced in Wistar rats by oral administration of paracetamol (640 mg/kg suspended in 1% carboxy methyl cellulose), once during the 16 days treatment period. MEEN was administered orally at the doses ...

Preliminary Phytochemical Screening and in vitro Antioxidant Potential of Hydro-Ethanolic extract of Euphorbia neriifolia Linn

Oxidative stress induced ROS and free radicals are believed to be major cause of degenerative diseases. Naturally occurring antioxidant supplements from plants are vital to counter the oxidative damage in cells. We assessed the antioxidant potential and phytochemical constituents of crude hydro-alcoholic extract of Euphorbia neriifolia (EN) using tests involving inhibition of DPPH, H2O2, supero...
