چکیده

Article history: Received 13 August 2009 Received in revised form 21 July 2010 Accepted 5 August 2010 In order to test the hypothesis that expression levels of insulin-like growth factor system is altered in piglets with intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), the present study was conducted to compare the expression levels of IGF-I, IGF-II, IGFR1, IGFR2 and IGFBP5 in m. longissimus, liver and kidney in 21-day-old IUGR piglets with normal birth weight (NBW) piglets. Our results showed that the expression level of insulin-like growth factor 1 was significantly lower (pb0.05) in m. longissimus, liver and kidney of the IUGR piglets compared with the NBW piglets. However, there were no differences in the expression levels of IGF2, IGF1R, IGF2R and IGFBP5 in all tissues tested between NBW and IUGR piglets. © 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Gene expression of the insulin-like growth factors and their receptors in cultured human retinal pigment epithelial cells.

Insulin-like growth factors I and II (IGF I and II) are polypeptides with both growth-promoting and insulin-like metabolic effects. Immunoreactive IGF I is present in the retina and both IGF I and II are present in vitreal fluid. The type I and type II IGF receptors are also localized within the neural retina. The presence of IGFs and IGF receptors within the eye suggests a possible growth-prom...

Effects of sustained exercise on GH-IGFs axis in gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata).

The endocrine system regulates growth mainly through the growth hormone (GH)/insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) axis and, although exercise promotes growth, little is known about its modulation of these factors. The aim of this work was to characterize the effects of 5 wk of moderate sustained swimming on the GH-IGFs axis in gilthead sea bream fingerlings. Plasma IGF-I/GH ratio and tissue gene ...

ANTISENSE RNA TO THE TYPE I INSULIN-LIKE GROWTH FACTOR RECEPTOR REVERSED THE TRANSFORMED PHENOTYPE OF PC-3 HUMAN PROSTATE CANCER CELL LINE IN VITRO

The insulin-like growth factor I receptor (IGF-IR) plays an essential role in the establishment and maintenance of transformed phenotype. Interference with the IGF-IR pathway by antisense causes reversal of the transformed phenotype in many rodent and human tumor cell lines. We stably transfected the PC-3 human prostate cancer cell line with an IGF-IR antisense RNA expression plasmid. The ...

The acid-labile subunit (ALS) of the 150 kDa IGF-binding protein complex: an important but forgotten component of the circulating IGF system.

The insulin-like growth factors-I and -II (IGFs) are involved in a wide array of cellular processes such as proliferation, prevention of apoptosis, and differentiation. Most of these effects are mediated by the IGF-I receptor, although at higher IGF concentrations the insulin receptor can also be activated. As the expression of both the IGFs and their receptors is widespread, IGFs are thought t...

The insulin-like growth factor-binding protein superfamily.

The insulin-like growth factor (IGF) binding proteins (IGFBPs) were initially identified as carrier proteins for IGF-I and IGF-II in a variety of biologic fluids. Their presumed function was to protect IGF peptides from degradation and clearance, increase the half-life of the IGFs, and deliver them to appropriate tissue receptors. The concept of IGFBPs as simple carrier proteins has been compli...
