چکیده

Distributed, real-time sensor networks are essential for effective surveillance in the digitized battlefield and for environmental monitoring. In this paper, we present the first systematic theory that leads to novel sensor deployment strategies for effective surveillance and target location. We represent the sensor field as a grid (twoor threedimensional) of points (coordinates), and use the term target location to refer to the problem of pin-pointing a target at a grid point at any instant in time. We use the framework of identifying codes to determine sensor placement for unique target location. We provide coding-theoretic bounds on the number of sensors and present methods for determtheir placement in the sensor field. We also show that sensor placement for single targets provides asymptotically complete (unambiguous) location of multiple targets.

Design and evaluation of two distributed methods for sensors placement in Wireless Sensor Networks

Adequate coverage is one of the main problems for distributed wireless sensor networks and The effectiveness of that highly depends on the sensor deployment scheme. Given a finite number of sensors, optimizing the sensor deployment will provide sufficient sensor coverage and save power of sensors for movement to target location to adequate coverage. In this paper, we apply fuzzy logic system to...

Sensor Placement in Distributed Sensor Networks using a Coding Theory Framework’

An important issue in the design of distributed sensor networks is the optimal placement of sensors for target location. If the surveillance region, also referred to as sensor field, is represented as a grid (twoor three-dimensional) of points (coordinates), target location refers to the problem of pin-pointing a target at a grid point at any point in time. For enhanced coverage, a large number...

Multiple Target Tracking in Wireless Sensor Networks Based on Sensor Grouping and Hybrid Iterative-Heuristic Optimization

A novel hybrid method for tracking multiple indistinguishable maneuvering targets using a wireless sensor network is introduced in this paper. The problem of tracking the location of targets is formulated as a Maximum Likelihood Estimation. We propose a hybrid optimization method, which consists of an iterative and a heuristic search method, for finding the location of targets simultaneously. T...
