Intuitonistic Basis for Non-Monotonic Logic

چکیده

In other words whatever can be obtained from assumption A can still be obtained if we add to A more assumptions. In many cases, reasoning is non-monotonic. Consider the story below of the World-Trave-Agency (WTA). The story shall serve as the basis for introducing a system of non-monotonic logic. WTA offers package tours from New York to Paris and Stuttgart. Every Sunday, a group of New Yorkers board a WTA plane in Now York, some get off at Paris and the rest continue to Stuttgart. The Stuttgart office arranges for hotels and tours in Europe. Our non-monotonic reasoning will be done by the the Stuttgart office. At 12:00 Stuttgart time, 3 hours after the scheduled New York take-off of the WTA group, the Stuttgart office learns that a terrorist attack was launched at Paris Airport, 2 planes were hijacked and that all flights nearing France are rerouted. Stuttgart has to decide what to do with the WTA-group. All telephone lines to New York are busy. The only established fact is that the WTA-plane did take off (some passenger’s wife happened to leave a message). Stuttgart reasons that in this case the WTA-plane will be rerouted to London, the Paris passengers will stay in London and the Stuttgart passengers will arrive tonight. This reasoning is performed on the basis of knowledge of WTA procedures and connections.

On Non-monotonic Conditional Reasoning

This note is concerned with a formal analysis of the problem of non-monotonic reasoning in intelligent systems, especially when the uncertainty is taken into account in a quantitative way. A firm connection between logic and probability is established by introducing conditioning notions by means of formal structures that do not rely on quantitative measures. The associated conditional logic, co...

A logic programming framework for possibilistic argumentation: Formalization and logical properties

In the last decade defeasible argumentation frameworks have evolved to become a sound setting to formalize commonsense, qualitative reasoning. The logic programming paradigm has shown to be particularly useful for developing different argument-based frameworks on the basis of different variants of logic programming which incorporate defeasible rules. Most of such frameworks, however, are unable...

Prioritised Default Logic as Argumentation with Partial Order Default Priorities

We express Brewka’s prioritised default logic (PDL) as argumentation using ASPIC. By representing PDL as argumentation and designing an argument preference relation that takes the argument structure into account, we prove that the conclusions of the justified arguments correspond to the PDL extensions. We will first assume that the default priority is total, and then generalise to the case wher...

FIPA Communicative Acts in Defeasible Logic

In agent communication languages, the inferences that can be made on the basis of a communicative action are inherently conditional, and non-monotonic. For example, a proposal only leads to a commitment, on the condition that it is accepted. And in a persuasion dialogue, assertions may later be retracted. In this paper we therefore present a defeasible logic that can be used to express a semant...

Possibilistic Logic, Preferential Models, Non-monotonicity and Related Issues

The links between Shoham's preference logic and possibilistic logic, a numerical logic of uncertainty based on Zadeh's possibility measures, are investigated. Starting from a fuzzy set of preferential interpretations of a propositional theory, we prove that the notion of preferential entailment is closely related to a previously introduced notion of conditional possibility. Conditional possibil...
