Comparison of Classical and Modern Control Applied to an Excavator-arm

چکیده
The excavation of foundations, general earthworks and earth removal tasks are activities which involve the machine operator in a series of repetitive operations. Automation is likely to provide a number of benefits such as improving efficiency, quality and safety. However, a persistent stumbling block for system developers is the achievement of fast smooth movement of the excavator arm under automatic control. In this regard, the paper develops two very different design methods, a model-based, full state feedback approach and a classical frequency domain technique based on the Nichols chart. The advantages and limitations of these contrasting approaches are identified in terms of both performance and design effort. Copyright © 2005 IFAC

Modelling and Remote Control of an Excavator
This paper reposts the results of an on-going project and investigates modelling and remote control issues of an industry excavator. The details of modelling, communication and control of a remotely controllable excavator are studied. The paper mainly focuses on trajectory tracking control of the excavator base and robust control of the excavator arm. These will provide the fundamental base for...
متن کاملImpedance Control of a Teleoperated Mini Excavator
A position-based impedance controller for excavator-type manipulators has been developed in our laboratory. This paper describes the proposed impedance controller and presents supporting experimental results. First, the problem of impedance control for a single hydraulic actuator is addressed and a method is presented for stability analysis. Steady-state position and force tracking of the close...
متن کاملA Critical Review on Kinematics of Hydraulic Excavator Backhoe Attachment
The Hydraulic excavator machines are heavy duty earth mover consisting of a boom, arm and bucket. It works on principle of hydraulic fluid with hydraulic cylinder and hydraulic motors. The Hydraulic excavator backhoe operation require coordinated movement of boom, arm and bucket to control the bucket tip position by following a desired trajectory and to use the excavator machines effectively in...
متن کاملBehavior-based Arm Control for an Autonomous Bucket Excavator
The paper at hand presents a novel, biologically inspired approach to numerically solve the inverse kinematics problem of arbitrary kinematic chains without instability problems and with low computational complexity. The kinematic chain of the robot arm is transferred to a network of behavior-based joint controllers, which try to deliver the best control value to solve the global problem. By me...
متن کاملProportional-integral-plus (pip) Gain Scheduling Control of an Intelligent Excavator
This paper considers the design and implementation of an electro-hydraulic control system for a robotic excavator, namely the Lancaster University Computerised and Intelligent Excavator (LUCIE). The excavator is being developed to autonomously dig trenches without human intervention. Here, a gain scheduling design, based on Proportional-Integral-Plus (PIP) control methods, is utilised to regula...
