Characterization of porcine serum immunoglobulins IgG, IgM and IgA and the preparation of monospecific anti-chain sera.

-The three known classes of immunoglobulins from Minnesota miniature swine have been isolated from sow serum. Whole immunoglobulin molecules and their constituent chains have been characterized physically, and monospecific anti-chain sera have been prepared to ?-chains, /z-chains, a-chains and light chains. The average concentration of each immunoglobulin class in sow serum has also been determined. The immunochemistry of porcine immunoglobulins and chain specific antisera provide a basis for further investigations on the ontogeny of the immune response in germfree piglets.
