TELEVISION COLORIMETRY: A tutorial for system designers

This Report was written primarily for use as a colorimetry tutorial for any MPEG users who may feel confused by the plethora of descriptive data contained in the MPEG data-stream. It is not intended to be an exhaustive treatise on basic colorimetry or even on television colorimetry; that would require a very much larger document. There are many books on the subject, but two are of particular relevance, those by Sproson, 1 and Widdel and Post. No part of this publication may be reproduced, stored in a retrieval system, or transmitted in any form or by any means, electronic, mechanical, photocopying, recording, or otherwise, without prior permission.
