چکیده

Changes in membrane polypeptide composition during greening o f etiolated maize were in vestigated to confirm the existence o f the developmental polypeptides o f 12 15 kDa described recently in virescent soybean mutant [M. Droppa, M. L. Ghirardi, G. Horvath, and A. Melis, Biochim. Biophys. Acta 932, 138— 145 (1988)]. These low molecular weight polypeptides were the most abundant proteins at the early stage o f greening, but were largely absent from fully developed thylakoids. During greening the relative concentration o f the 12-15 kDa polypep tides were inversely proportional to that o f LHC II, suggesting a role o f these polypeptides in the assembly o f the LHC II and/or chloroplast development.

Freeze-fracture architecture and polypeptide composition of thylakoid membranes from euploid Ricinus cells.

The freeze-fracture architecture and polypeptide composition of thylakoid membranes of euploid cells of Ricinus communis L. were examined. Electron microscopic examination of the chloroplasts of 1N 2N and 4N cells revealed little variation in the size of chloroplasts, lamellar structure and internal organization of plastids, despite increases in plastid numbers per cell observed to accompany th...

Protection of thylakoids against combined light and drought by a lumenal substance in the resurrection plant Haberlea rhodopensis.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS Haberlea rhodopensis is a perennial, herbaceous, saxicolous, poikilohydric flowering plant that is able to survive desiccation to air-dried state under irradiance below 30 micromol m-2 s-1. However, desiccation at irradiance of 350 micromol m-2 s-1 induced irreversible changes in the photosynthetic apparatus, and mature leaves did not recover after rehydration. The aim here ...

Isolation and characterization of photosystem II from the filamentous sporophyte of Porphyra yezoensis.

Thylakoid membranes were isolated and purified from diploid filamentous sporophytes of Porphyra yezoensis Ueda using sucrose density gradient ultracentrifugation (SDGUC). After thylakoid membranes were solubilized with SDS, the phtosystem II (PSII) particles with high 2, 6-dichloroindophenol (DCIP) photoreduction activity were isolated by SDGUC. The absorption and fluorescence spectra, DCIP pho...

Characterization of envelope membrane polypeptides from spinach chloroplasts.

Chloroplast envelope polypeptides from spinach were separated into several fractions on the basis of their solubility in a mixture of chloroform/methanol (2:1, v/v) or in 0.1 N NaOH. Using a simple two dimension procedure for gel electrophoresis, we resolved up to 70 polypeptides. The envelope is characterized by the preponderance of high molecular weight polypeptides (Mr > 54,000), many of...

Stabilization of Thylakoid Membranes by Spermine during Stress-induced Senescence of Barley Leaf Discs.

The effect of spermine on photochemical activity and polypeptide composition of chloroplasts from barley leaf discs during senescence in the dark was studied. Chloroplast membranes did not show photosystem II activity after spermine treatment when water was the electron donor, but in the presence of diphenylcarbazide, this activity was observed. The diphenylcarbazide-stimulated photoreduction o...
