چکیده

Under external magnetic fields (B) from 0 to 10T, we have examined the magnetic quenching of the fluorescence from several electronic excited states of gas phase molecules: S10 0 0 and 6a 1 0 vibronic bands of pyrimidine, 6V and 10V band regions of CS2, and e C(132) and (150) vibronic bands of SO2. A major result of this work is the observed saturation of the magnetic quenching due to the “direct mechanism” under large magnetic fields. This is a new feature characteristic of the magnetic quenching under large magnetic fields and cannot be interpreted by the existing theory. In order to theoretically interpret this new feature, we have solved the equation of motion for the density matrix and formulated the fluorescence quenching ratio, Q(B).

Intramolecular Radiationless Transitions

In this paper we consider a theory for intramolecular radiationless transitions in an isolated molecule. The Bom-oppenheimer zero-order excited states are not pure in view of configuration interaction between nearly degenerate zero-order states, leading to the broadening of the excited state, the line shape being Lorentzian. The optically excited state can be described in terms of a superpositi...

Control of Optical Transitions with Magnetic Fields in Weakly Bound Molecules.

In weakly bound diatomic molecules, energy levels are closely spaced and thus more susceptible to mixing by magnetic fields than in the constituent atoms. We use this effect to control the strengths of forbidden optical transitions in (88)Sr2 over 5 orders of magnitude with modest fields by taking advantage of the intercombination-line threshold. The physics behind this remarkable tunability is...

Magnetic Raman optical activity and Raman electron paramagnetic resonance

All molecules in a magnetic field parallel to the incident light beam show a small difference in the intensity of Raman scattering at 900 in right and left circularly polarized incident light. The most interesting effects occur in vibrational resonance Raman scattering from odd—electron transition metal halides, and in pure electronic resonance Raman scattering from both odd— and even—electron ...

PB~Tc$PPPYSKS OF DODCI

The solvent can exert significant in!-?uence on the pathways and rates of radiationless decay of the excited states of solute molecuIes. A major barrier to eIucidating such el3ects is the diversity of solute-solvent interactions which make it difficult to assign experimental observations to specific solvent properties. There exists, therefore, a great need for systematic experimental studies ai...

Effects of static and electromagnetic fields on human serum paraoxonase-1 activity in vitro

Introduction: In recent years the relationship between electromagnetic fields and coronary artery disease is attracted a considerable attention. Low density lipoprotein (LDL) oxidation is the initial step in the development of atherosclerosis. Paraoxonase1 (PON1) protects LDL and High density lipoprotein (HDL) against oxidative processes, thus preventing the formation of atherogenic (oxidized-L...
