چکیده

We present a detailed analysis of time-resolved optical spectra of the ZZ Ceti white dwarf, HS 0507+0434B. Using the wavelength dependence of observed mode amplitudes, we deduce the spherical degree, l, of the modes, most of which have l = 1. The presence of a large number of combination frequencies (linear sums or differences of the real modes) enabled us not only to test theoretical predictions but also to indirectly infer spherical and azimuthal degrees of real modes that had no observed splittings. In addition to the above, we measure line-of-sight velocities from our spectra. We find only marginal evidence for periodic modulation associated with the pulsation modes: at the frequency of the strongest mode in the lightcurve, we measure an amplitude of 2.6± 1.0 kms, which has a probability of 2% of being due to chance; for the other modes, we find lower values. Our velocity amplitudes and upper limits are smaller by a factor of two compared to the amplitudes found in ZZ Psc. We find that this is consistent with expectations based on the position of HS 0507+0434B in the instability strip. Combining all the available information from data such as ours is a first step towards constraining atmospheric properties in a convectionally unstable environment from an observational perspective.

Astronomy and Astrophysics the Δ Scuti Star Fg Vir. Iv. Mode Identifications and Pulsation Modelling

This paper examines the mode identification and presents pulsation models for FG Vir, for which 24 frequencies have been detected. Histograms of the frequency spacings show peaks which are identified with adjacent radial orders and rotational splitting. Pulsational l values are deduced for eight modes by comparing the observed photometric phase lags between v and y variations with calculated va...

Mode identification in rapidly rotating stars

Context. Recent calculations of pulsation modes in rapidly rotating polytropic models and models based on the SelfConsistent Field method (MacGregor et al. 2007) have shown that the frequency spectrum of low degree pulsation modes can be described by an empirical formula similar to Tassoul’s asymptotic formula (Tassoul 1980), provided that the underlying rotation profile is not too differential...

Identification of Dynamic Damping Properties of a Flexible Structural Adhesive

In this paper dynamic damping properties of a nominated flexible structural adhesive have been identified using an extended-direct modal based joint identification method. It has been revealed that damping characteristics of adhesive are correlated to both frequency and mode shape. Young’s and shear moduli increase with frequency but damping on the other hand, decrease. The results showed that ...

LINEAR PULSATION CHARACTERISTICS OF MIRA VARIABLE STARS

The linear adiabatic pulsation-periods of Mira variable stars have been derived. Approximately 2701[1]models were calculated for M = 0.7 MΘ to 2 MΘ stars with radii from 180 RΘ to 340 RΘ and luminosities from 2800 LΘ to 10,000 LΘ. The chemical composition of all models is (X,Z) = (0.7,0.02). From the result of this study, linear relations on Luminosity-Period-Mass relationship and luminosity-pe...

Mode identification from line-profile variations

We review the current status of different mode-identification techniques based on observed line-profile variations. Three basic methods are currently available to identify the non-radial pulsation modes. These three methods are described, together with their different variants. We further present applications to real data, focusing especially on δ Scuti stars. After having discussed all the met...
