Transcending the Task-Artefact cycle through evolvable design: the concept of shearing layers

چکیده
The paper deals with the design of cognitive artefacts. It is supported that both normative and descriptive design approaches fail to acknowledge the co-adaptation between users and artefacts; this leads to the so-called design paradox and obstructs the co-evolution of practice and artefacts. In the first section, the paper discusses the task-artefact cycle and presents examples showing that the task-artefact cycles evolve in different time scales. In the second section, we propose the notion of shearing layers as a conceptual tool for analysing the dynamics of task-artefact co-evolution and the identification of slow and faster layers. At a design level, we show how adopting the shearing layers view we may support and accelerate the practice-artefact co-evolution.

On Feasibility of Adaptive Level Hardware Evolution for Emergent Fault Tolerant Communication
A permanent physical fault in communication lines usually leads to a failure. The feasibility of evolution of a self organized communication is studied in this paper to defeat this problem. In this case a communication protocol may emerge between blocks and also can adapt itself to environmental changes like physical faults and defects. In spite of faults, blocks may continue to function since ...
متن کاملAnalyzing the Shearing-Layer Concept Applied to Urban Green System
Currently, green rating systems are mainly utilized for correctly sizing mechanical and electrical systems, which have short lifetime expectancies. In these systems, passive solar and bio-climatic architecture, which have long lifetime expectancies, are neglected. Urban rating systems consider buildings and services in addition to neighborhoods and public transportation as integral parts of the...

A systolic serial multiplier for unsigned numbers is presented which operates without zero words inserted between successive data words, outputs the full product and has only one clock cycle latency. The multiplier is based on a modified serial/parallel scheme with two adjacent multiplier cells. Systolic concept is a well-known means of intensive computational task through replication of func...

Abstract: At the last decade of the 20th century, Womack et. Al introduced Lean concept to the industrial world. Since 1990 up to now, existed studies mostly have focused on lean production in the step of manufacturing, but in this research leanness concept has developed in the plant life cycle. In this paper leanness concept will be described as elimination of wastes in the phases of investmen...
