Ordering of alkali halide salts dissolved in bacteriophage Pf1 solutions: A nuclear magnetic resonance study
نویسندگان
چکیده
The nuclear magnetic resonance ~NMR! spectra of the I53/2 monovalent ions Na, Cl, K, and Br for NaCl and KBr dissolved into filamentous bacteriophage Pf1 solutions display line splittings and shifts consistent with an interaction between the nuclear spin and the electric field gradient produced by the Pf1 particles. The average electric field gradient and thus the spectral splitting for ions in the void space between magnetically aligned Pf1 particles is modeled using a numerical solution to the Poisson–Boltzmann equation. An NMR titration experiment in a 57 mg/mL Pf1 solution is used to determine the background Na ion concentration in solution as 32 mM which compares well with the 31.1 mM negative surface charge on Pf1. © 2002 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1463396#

Nuclear spin relaxation of sodium cations in bacteriophage Pf1 solutions.
The nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra for the I=3/2 23Na cation dissolved into filamentous bacteriophage Pf1 solutions display line splittings and relaxation times consistent with an interaction between the 23Na nuclear quadrupole moment and the electric field gradient produced by the negatively charged Pf1 particles. The 23Na NMR line splittings and relaxation rates corresponding to mag...

NMR signals of 7Li, 23Na, 35C1, 39K , 79Br, 87Rb and 127I have been measured in various alkali and halogen salt powders relative to well defined aqueous solutions. W ith the known shielding constants of some of these solutions the nuclear magnetic shielding constants of the alkali and chlorine nuclei in crystalline powders were evaluated in the atomic reference scale. The theoretical values of ...

Novel inorganic alkali and alkaline earth hydrides of the f o r m u l a MH *, MH 2 * , and MH X * wherein M is the metal, X , is a halide, and H * comprises a novel high binding energy hydride ion were synthesized in a high temperature gas cell by reaction of atomic hydrogen with a catalyst and MH , MH 2 , or MX corresponding to an alkali metal or alkaline e a r t h metal compound, respectively...
متن کاملConformational interconversions of the cyclic hexapeptide cyclo(Pro-Gly) 3 .
A cyclic hexapeptide, cyclo(Pro-Gly-Pro-Gly-Pro-Gly), has been synthesized; its solution conformations were examined by 220-MHz nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The solution structures have been deduced, and shown to vary as a function of solvent polarity. In addition, it has been found that this cyclic peptide binds alkali metal cations. While the predominant conformation of this cycli...
متن کاملNuclear magnetic resonance studies of supercooled aqueous electrolyte solutions
The dynamic properties of water molecules coordinated to simple ions (alkali and alkali-earth halides) and hydrophobic ions (tetraalkylammonium (TAA) halides) in supercooled solutions have been investigated with KMR. The study of spin-lattice relaxation rates and self-diffusion coefficients as functions of temperature, pressure, Larmor frequency and concentration reveals characteristic features...
