چکیده

Extensive and inappropriate pesticide use has led to pests developing resistance to major groups of pesticides, resurgence of secondary pests, high pesticide residues in produce and decimation of natural enemies. The adverse effect on human and environmental health cannot be ignored. More and more farmers are coming to realize the short term benefits and long term positive effects of the use of bio agents and other ecologically safe methods to tackle pests. Therefore, alternate eco friendly pest management tactics are needed. The potential benefits to agriculture and public health programs through the use of bio pesticides are considerable. With the increased environmental awareness and the pollution potential and health hazards from many of the conventional pesticides the demand for nature based biopesticides has been steadily increasing worldwide. Biopesticides include a broad array of microbial pesticides, biochemicals derived from microorganisms and other natural sources and processes involving the genetic modification of plants to express genes encoding insecticidal toxins. Thus, this manuscript outlines the types, benefits and opportunities of biopesticides.

Role of research and regulation in 50 years of pest management in agriculture. Prepared for the 50th anniversary of the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.

Pest management techniques have evolved over the past 50 years. Inorganic chemical pesticides were replaced by synthetic organic chemicals, and now biopesticides constitute a significant part of pest management technology. Requirements for the regulatory approval of pesticides changed dramatically in 1996 with the passage of the Food Quality Protection Act (FQPA). The FQPA directs the U.S. Envi...

The development, regulation and use of biopesticides for integrated pest management.

Over the past 50 years, crop protection has relied heavily on synthetic chemical pesticides, but their availability is now declining as a result of new legislation and the evolution of resistance in pest populations. Therefore, alternative pest management tactics are needed. Biopesticides are pest management agents based on living micro-organisms or natural products. They have proven potential ...

Biofertilizers, Biopesticides and Integrated Pest Management: Potentials and Challenges in the Islamic Republic of Iran

The Islamic Republic of Iran has a rich agricultural background; agriculture accounts for 10% of the GDP and provides livelihood to about 30% of the population. Efforts to increase farm productivity resulted in importing pesticides with about 3000 tons annually between 2012 and 2014; therefore, there is urgent need for using alternatives such as application of biofertilizers and biopesticides i...

Utilization of biopesticides as sustainable solutions for management of pests in legume crops: achievements and prospects

Grain legumes remain important to meet the projected targets relating to food and nutritional security worldwide. The complementation of cereal-based food with grain legumes is a vegetarian diet with high-quality protein. However, the performance of these crops is severely influenced by a number of biotic and abiotic stresses, of which pests and pathogens remain the crucial affecting plants at ...
