چکیده

This study considers the stability of two stratified immiscible incompressible fluids in a horizontal channel of infinite extent. Of particular interest is the case with the heavier fluid initially lying above the lighter fluid, so that the system is susceptible to the classical Rayleigh-Taylor instability. An electric field acting in the horizontal direction is imposed on the system and it is shown that it can act to completely suppress Rayleigh-Taylor instabilities and produces a dispersive regularization in the model. Dispersion relations are derived and a class of nonlinear traveling waves (periodic and solitary) are computed.

Effects of laser radiation, transverse electric field and roughness of the boundary on Rayleigh-Taylor instability in a thin poorly conducting viscous fluid

This paper deals with the Rayleigh-Taylor Instability (RTI) at the interface between heavy poorly conducting fluid supported by a lighter poorly conducting fluid in the presence of transverse electric field, thermal radiation and roughness with slip boundary condition at bottom rough wall and no-shear condition at the top interface. Analytical solutions are obtained for modified Navier-Stokes a...

Magnetic field generation by the Rayleigh-Taylor instability in laser-driven planar plastic targets.

Magnetic fields generated by the Rayleigh-Taylor instability were measured in laser-accelerated planar foils using ultrafast proton radiography. Thin plastic foils were irradiated with ∼4-kJ, 2.5-ns laser pulses focused to an intensity of ∼10(14)  W/cm(2) on the OMEGA EP Laser System. Target modulations were seeded by laser nonuniformities and amplified during target acceleration by the Rayleig...

MHD instability in cylindric Taylor-Couette flow

The linear marginal instability of an axisymmetric MHD Taylor-Couette flow of infinite vertical extension is considered. For flows with a resting outer cylinder there is a well-known characteristic Reynolds number even without magnetic field but for sufficiently weak magnetic fields there are solutions with smaller Reynolds numbers so that a characteristic minimum exists. The minimum only exist...

On the Rayleigh–Taylor Instability of Radio Bubbles in Galaxy Clusters

We consider the Rayleigh–Taylor instability in the early evolution of the rarefied radio bubbles (cavities) observed in many cooling–flow clusters of galaxies. The top of a bubble becomes prone to the Rayleigh–Taylor instability as the bubble rises through the intra–cluster medium (ICM). We show that while the jet is powering the inflation, the deceleration of the bubble–ICM interface is able t...

Numerical Simulation of Rayleigh-Taylor Instability

Rayleigh-Taylor (RT) instability has a growing importance in many fields including aircraft industry and astrophysics. The development and the growth of RT instability were investigated using sinusoidal disturbances with different wavelength at the interface of the two fluids. Numerical simulations were performed by solving Navier-Stokes unsteady equations with the VOF formulation. Results of t...
