چکیده
THE SIGNIFICANCE of auto-antibodies in the initiation and progression of certain types of kidney diseases in man and in experimental animals has often been considered to be of little or of no importance. It is often suggested that antibodies, which can be detected by various in vitro techniques, are the consequence of the immuno-pathological processes rather than the cause of the kidney disease (Boss, Silber and Nelken, 1968; Mathur et al., 1968). In spite of controversy it is well established that glomerulonephritis in man and in experimental animals can be produced either by anti-glomerular basement membrane antibodies or by antigen antibody complex depositions in the glomeruli (Dixon, 1968). An experimental model produced by Heymann and his co-workers (1959) facilitated the understanding of one type of disease process involved in the socalled auto-immune nephrosis of rats. Since morphological and clinical features of the experimentally induced autologous immune complex nephritis (Lannigan et al., 1969) show remarkable resemblance to membranous nephropathy in man, further studies which might shed light on the initiation of this disease would be desirable. In one experiment (Barabas and Lannigan, 1969) it was observed that

The Production of Chronic Glomerulonephritis in Rats by the Injection of Rabbit Anti-rat-placenta Serum
1. The injection of rabbit anti-rat-placenta serums in young adult rats produced chronic glomerulonephritis in 18 of 32 animals. 2. The course of the nephritis and the renal lesions were indistinguishable from those obtained in 11 of 13 animals injected with rabbit anti-rat-kidney serum. 3. Six instances of similar renal lesions occurred among 99 control animals. In 2 the rats had been injected...
متن کاملImmunoreactive Basement Membrane Antigens in Normal Human Urine and Serum
Using a sheep antiserum to human glomerular basement membrane (GBM), studies of urine from healthy adults showed the presence of two cross-reactive antigens. These antigens were purified partially by preparative electrophoresis and electrofocusing, and separated on G-200; both appeared to be acidic, of high molecular weight, and carbohydrate rich. Their immunologic relationship to human GBM sol...
متن کاملLack of in vivo function of osteopontin in experimental anti-GBM nephritis.
Osteopontin (Opn) is a potent chemoattractant for mononuclear cells that is upregulated in various inflammatory states of the kidney. Opn is believed to contribute to mononuclear cell infiltration and renal injury. The importance of Opn was examined in vivo in rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis in Opn knockout mice. Glomerulonephritis was induced by intravenous injection of rabbit anti-mous...
متن کاملThe Pathogenic Role of Macrophage Migration Inhibitory Factor in Immunologically Induced Kidney Disease in the Rat
Macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) plays a pivotal role in the inflammatory response in endotoxemia and in the delayed-type hypersensitivity response, but its potential as a regulator of immunologically induced disease is unknown. We have addressed this issue by administering a neutralizing anti-MIF antibody in a rat model of immunologically induced crescentic anti-glomerular basement...
متن کاملEffect of experimental glomerulonephritis on the cells in canine renal lymph with special reference to the veiled cell.
An immunological glomerulonephritis was induced in dogs by the administration of rabbit anti-canine glomerular serum (1 mg/kg) and the effects on white cells in blood, thoracic duct lymph and peripheral renal lymph were observed over 14 days. The principal response was seen in the renal lymph which showed, within 1 hr of the injection of antiserum, a significant increase in its cellular content...
