On the Water Waves Equations with Surface Tension

چکیده
The purpose of this article is to clarify the Cauchy theory of the water waves equations as well in terms of regularity indexes for the initial conditions as for the smoothness of the bottom of the domain (namely no regularity assumption is assumed on the bottom). Our main result is that, following the approach developped in [1], after suitable paralinearizations, the system can be arranged into an explicit symmetric system of Schrödinger type. We then show that the smoothing effect for the (one dimensional) surface tension water waves proved in [9], is in fact a rather direct consequence of this reduction, which allows also to lower the regularity indexes of the initial data, and to obtain the natural weights in the estimates.

Model Equations for Gravity-capillary Waves in Deep Water
The Euler equations for water waves in any depth have been shown to have solitary wave solutions when the effect of surface tension is included. This paper proposes three quadratic model equations for these types of waves in infinite depth with a two-dimensional fluid domain. One model is derived directly from the Euler equations. Two further simpler models are proposed, both having the full gr...

Hammack & Segur [1] conducted a series of surface water-wave experiments in which the evolution of long waves of depression was measured and studied. This present work compares time series from these experiments with predictions from numerical simulations of the KdV, Serre, and several unidirectional and bidirectional Whitham-type equations. These comparisons show that accurate predictions come...
متن کاملComparison of Modulational Instabilities in Full-dispersion Shallow Water Models
We study the modulational instability of a shallow water model, with and without surface tension, which generalizes the Whitham equation to include bi-directional propagation. Without surface tension, the small amplitude periodic traveling waves are modulationally unstable if their wave number is greater than a critical wave number predicting a Benjamin-Feir type instability and the result qual...

Treated sea water is the most significant source of water and surfactant floods. The various chemicals employed in treatment plants should be compatible with surfactant systems. Based on surface tension experiments, the activity of these chemicals is examined over a wide range of concentrations in different solutions, including distillated water, sea water by using three types of surfactant mix...

Abstract: In this study an algorithm for mold-filling simulation with consideration of surface tension has been developed based on a SOLA VOF scheme. As the governing equations, the Navier-Stokes equations for incompressible and laminar flows were used. We proposed a way of considering surface tension in mold-filling simulation. The proposed scheme for surface tension was based on the conti...
