Message-Passing Automata Are Expressively Equivalent to EMSO Logic

چکیده
We study the expressiveness of finite message-passing automata with a priori unbounded channels and show them to capture exactly the class of MSC languages that are definable in existential monadic second-order logic interpreted over MSCs. Moreover, we prove the monadic quantifier-alternation hierarchy over MSCs to be infinite and conclude that the class of MSC languages accepted by message-passing automata is not closed under complement. Furthermore, we show that satisfiability for (existential) monadic seconder-order logic over MSCs is undecidable.

An Automaton over Data Words That Captures EMSO Logic
We develop a general framework for the specification and implementation of systems whose executions are words, or partial orders, over an infinite alphabet. As a model of an implementation, we introduce class register automata, a one-way automata model over words with multiple data values. Our model combines register automata and class memory automata. It has natural interpretations. In particu...
متن کاملWeight Assignment Logic
We introduce a weight assignment logic for reasoning about quantitative languages of infinite words. This logic is an extension of the classical MSO logic and permits to describe quantitative properties of systems with multiple weight parameters, e.g., the ratio between rewards and costs. We show that this logic is expressively equivalent to unambiguous weighted Büchi automata. We also consider...
متن کاملMuller Message-Passing Automata and Logics
We study nonterminating message-passing automata whose behavior is described by infinite message sequence charts. As a first result, we show that Muller, Büchi, and terminationdetecting Muller acceptance are equivalent for these devices. To describe the expressive power of these automata, we give a logical characterization. More precisely, we show that they have the same expressive power as the...
متن کاملBüchi-Kamp Theorems for 1-clock ATA
This paper investigates Kamp-like and Büchi-like theorems for 1-clock Alternating Timed Automata (1-ATA) and its natural subclasses. A notion of 1-ATA with loop-free-resets is defined. This automaton class is shown to be expressively equivalent to the temporal logic RatMTL which is MTL[FI] extended with a regular expression guarded modality. Moreover, a subclass of future timed MSO with k-varia...
متن کاملModal Logic and Distributed Message Passing Automata
In a recent article, Lauri Hella and co-authors identify a canonical connection between modal logic and deterministic distributed constant-time algorithms. The paper reports a variety of highly natural logical characterizations of classes of distributed message passing automata that run in constant time. The article leaves open the question of identifying related logical characterizations when ...
