چکیده

This work focuses on the implications for TCP performance with respect to two broad characteristics of error modeling. First, we consider rate-based error models vs. temporal error models. We show that it is difficult to confidently assess the impact of improvements to existing protocols or the performance gains of new protocols under a ratebased model. Second, we consider error models that “synchronize” losses in the forward and reverse paths vs. models that do not do so, or which model losses in the forward path only. Our results show that TCP performance can be dramatically different under a synchronized error model compared to a non-synchronized one.

New geometry for TCP: severe plastic deformation of tubes

Since tubes are widely used for different industrial applications, processing of tubes by the Severe Plastic Deformation (SPD) method has been the target of different attempts. Among these attempts, development of SPD processes for tubes based on Equal Channel Angular Pressing (ECAP) has been more successful. As an illustration, Tube Channel Pressing (TCP) has been presented as an attractive SP...

Performance modeling of HS-RR-TCP over load-balanced optical burst-switched (OBS) networks

TCP-over-OBS is a promising transport paradigm to support next-generation Internet. It is well-known that loadbalanced routing generally improves loss performance over OBS. We identify that implementing TCP over load-balanced OBS could lead to persistent out-of-order delivery of TCP segments, resulting in unnecessary timeouts and fast retransmissions. In this paper we evaluate the performance o...

The Quantitative Analysis of TCP Congestion Control Algorithm in Third-Generation Cellular Networks Based on FSMC Loss Model and its Performance Enhancement

Recent initiatives to add mobility to the Internet and packet data services in third-generation (3G) cellular systems are being considered as candidate solutions for the delivery of IP data to mobile users. Transport Control Protocol (TCP) will continue to be the most widely used transport protocol for a certain duration in 3G cellular Internet networks. Initially designed for high-speed wireli...

Modeling random early detection in a differentiated services network

An analytical framework for modeling a network of Random Early Detection (RED) queues with mixed traffic types (e.g. TCP and UDP) is developed. Expressions for the steady state goodput for each flow and the average queuing delay at each queue are derived. The framework is extended to include a class of RED queues that provides differentiated services for flows with multiple classes. Finally, th...

TCP-Aware Forward Error Correction for Wireless Networks

This paper studies TCP performance improvement in wireless and heterogeneous networks using Forward Error Correction (FEC) technique driven by TCP semantics. In the proposed scheme, called TCP-aware FEC, the amount of redundancy added to a packet at the sender node corresponds to the level of error protection and is computed as a function of TCP congestion window. The TCP-aware FEC becomes stro...
