چکیده

Methods To Collect 64 cases with severe sepsis hospitalized in SICU of the First Affiliated hospital of Sun Yat-sen University from December 2012 to December 2013, retrospectively. Monitored the dynamic changes of serum PCT, C-reactive protein(CRP), vital signs, blood routine test on the 1, 3 and 7 day after admission to SICU, the Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II (APACHE II) scores were recorded. Compared the serum PCT, APACHE II, white blood cell(WBC), CRP and other inflammation markers between the two groups. The correlation of PCT and APACHE II was evaluated by spearman correlation analysis. The prediction of mortality of the PCT and APACHE II were evaluated by ROC curves.

Predicting treatment failure in severe sepsis and septic shock: looking for the Holy Grail

Procalcitonin has been proposed as a specific biomarker of bacterial infections and has been related to the severity of sepsis. The prognostic ability of the initial concentrations of procalcitonin in sepsis is controversial. Some studies find higher initial concentrations in non-survivors but others find no differences. Prognostic assessment based on follow-up of procalcitonin levels may be be...

[Prognostic value of procalcitonin, C-reactive protein and leukocytes in septic shock].

OBJECTIVES This study evaluates the potential prognostic value of serial measurements of different biomarkers (procalcitonin [PCT], C-reactive protein and leukocytes [CRP]) in septic shock patients. DESIGN Prospective observational study. SETTING Intensive care unit of a third-level University Hospital. PATIENTS The study comprised a total of 88 septic shock patients defined using the 200...

Procalcitonin: A Reliable Marker for the Diagnosis of Neonatal Sepsis

Objective(s) In the last few years, serum procalcitonin has been proposed as an early marker of infections in neonates, with varying results. In this study, we aimed to investigate the value of procalcitonin, and C- reactive protein in establishing the diagnosis of neonatal sepsis. Materials and Methods Blood samples were collected at admission from 69 neonates with suspected infection (admi...

Serum Procalcitonin and Procalcitonin Clearance as a Prognostic Biomarker in Patients with Severe Sepsis and Septic Shock

We evaluated the tendency of the plasma concentration and procalcitonin (PCT) clearance (PCTc) to act as biomarkers of prognosis in patients with severe sepsis and septic shock. From 2011 to 2013, we prospectively analyzed patients with sepsis admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU). The serum PCT was evaluated at the time of sepsis diagnosis and again after 48 h (day 3) and 96 h (day 5). PCT...

Serum procalcitonin level as a biomarker for the differential diagnosis between infectious and non-infectious systemic inflammatory response syndrome: a prospective case–control study

Background and Aim: Considering the importance of sepsis and its complications in the mortality of the patients admitted to different parts of hospital and the importance of early diagnosis and timely and appropriate treatment in the patients' survival, we investigated the value of procalcitonin serum level for the differential diagnosis between infectious and non-infectious SIRS in the patient...
