چکیده

Electromagnetic properties of aircraft and missile skins have a large effect on radar cross sections and determine the level of stealth that is achieved over the various RF bands currently in use. RF absorption, reflection, and propagation along the skin surface all serve as important measures of the electromagnetic performance of the coated surfaces. Non-invasive probing of the electromagnetic field just above the propagating wave at multiple spots along the propagation direction can be used to determine and measure wave propagation parameters, including effective RF index, loss per length, wave impedance, and frequency dependent material properties of the coatings. Wide-band photonic electric field sensors have been demonstrated for probing of dielectric layers by measuring the traveling waves along the coated aircraft surface. The photonic E-field sensors are extremely linear and produce an exact real time analog RF representation of the electric field, including phase information. These ultra-wideband (UWB) photonic RF sensors are very small and contain negligible metal content, allowing them to be placed at close proximity without perturbing the RF surface waves. This is very important in accurately characterizing highly damped surface waves on absorber layers. This paper discusses the linearity, bandwidth, polarization, and sensitivity of the unique UWB photonic E-field sensor design. Experimental results are presented on surface-wave characterization measurements using these sensors.

Characterization of photonic crystal microcavities with manufacture imperfections.

The manufacture of a photonic crystal always produce deviations from the ideal case. In this paper we present a detailed analysis of the influence of the manufacture errors in the resulting electric field distribution of a photonic crystal microcavity. The electromagnetic field has been obtained from a FDTD algorithm. The results are studied by using the Principal Component Analysis method. Thi...

Engineering of parallel plasmonic-photonic interactions for on-chip refractive index sensors.

Ultra-narrow linewidth in the extinction spectrum of noble metal nanoparticle arrays induced by the lattice plasmon resonances (LPRs) is of great significance for applications in plasmonic lasers and plasmonic sensors. However, the challenge of sustaining LPRs in an asymmetric environment greatly restricts their practical applications, especially for high-performance on-chip plasmonic sensors. ...

Tailoring photonic forces on a magnetodielectric nanoparticle with a fluctuating optical source

We address the forces exerted by the random electromagnetic field emitted by a fluctuating optical source on a kind of dielectric nanoparticles that have arisen much interest because of their recently shown magnetodielectric behavior. The illumination with light, or other electromagnetic wave, of a given state of coherence allows us to create photonic forces, a particular case of which are opti...

Numerical Analysis of Photonic Crystal Waveguide

During the last decade, a major research interest is focused on optical sensors for chemical and biosensing application relaying on refractive index (RI) measurements. Among this class of optical sensors the waveguides confined inside of photonic crystals are of high interest. The application of such RI optical sensors is interesting for both gaseous and aqueous samples and includes measurement...

اثر کانونی شدن امواج الکترومغناطیسی دربلور فوتونی دو بعدی با ثابت شبکه متغیر‌ تدریجی

In this paper we studied the focusing effect of electromagnetic wave in the two-dimensional graded photonic crystal consisting of Silicon rods in the air background with gradually varying lattice constant. The results showed that graded photonic crystal can focus wide beams on a narrow area at frequencies near the lower edge of the band gap, where equal frequency contours are not concave. For c...
