Hemoperitoneum presenting with the use of a topical hemostatic agent in oocyte retrieval: a case report

چکیده
UNLABELLED INTRODUCTION Hemoperitoneum may occur from an ovarian puncture point after oocyte retrieval. CASE PRESENTATION We report a case of massive hemoperitoneum following transvaginal ultrasound-guided oocyte retrieval in a 33-year-old Caucasian woman. The bleeding required emergency laparoscopy because of active bleeding from the ovarian puncture point. Hemostasis was very difficult to achieve, and traditional operative procedures were not efficient. The only way to stop the bleeding was by using an absorbable fibrinogen and thrombin sealant sponge, which was applied around the ovary. During laparoscopy three pints of packed red blood were administered. No specific alteration of screening coagulation tests was found one month later. CONCLUSIONS Hemostasis can be very difficult to achieve with traditional operative procedures. Topical hemostatic agents can be useful to preserve the ovary wherever possible.

I-30: Late Onset Severe Hemoperitoneum after Transvaginal Oocyte Retrieval: Incidence, Course, and Management
Background Severe ovarian bleeding after transvaginal oocyte retrieval is a rare but potentially life-threatening complication. A late-onset is common and may be associated with an increased risk for ovariectomy. In the present study we analyzed our cases of ovarian bleeding (OB) after oocyte retrieval and compared it with the published cases and studies, including 31 patients. Main outcome mea...

Background & Importance: The use of local hemostatic agents in neurosurgery is mandatory in order to control the sequelae of intracerebal hemorrhage. It is widely used in oxidized regenerated cellulose (Surgicel™). Case Presentation: A 54-year-old man previously operated for grade II meningioma came back to our attention due to the onset of left side arm weakness one month afte...
متن کاملHemoperitoneum Caused by Placenta Percreta in the Third Trimester of Pregnancy
The placental adhesive disorders such as placenta accreta and placenta percreta are the rare causes of serious obstetric hemorrhages. They are associated with high maternal morbidity and mortality. Placenta percreta is usually diagnosed in the third trimester of pregnancy as a massive postpartum hemorrhage when an attempt to remove the placenta reveals lack of a cleavage plane. Here we report a...

Drug-induced immune thrombocytopenia has been associated with hundreds of medications and can lead to devastating consequences for the patient. We present a case of a healthy 33-year-old female undergoing in vitro fertilization who developed a severe drug-induced thrombocytopenia, petechiae, and a large hemoperitoneum after receiving Cefazolin antibiotic prophylaxis for a transvaginal oocyte re...
