Inlet Temperature Effects on Sensible Heat Transfer to Falling Liquid Films on Horizontal Round Tubes

چکیده
The horizontal-tube, falling film heat exchanger has advantages over flooded bundles and finds widely use in vaporcompression and absorption systems for air-conditioning and refrigeration. The effects of the liquid feeding temperature on inter-tube falling-film heat transfer behavior are investigated experimentally for distilled water, pure ethylene glycol and Dowtherm 4000. It is found that the liquid feeding temperature significantly impacts the heat transfer coefficient for a fluid with a large viscosity (such as pure ethylene glycol and Dowtherm 4000), but has almost no effect on the heat transfer coefficient for a fluid with a small viscosity (such as water). It is also observed that the fluid thermophysical property changes associated with feeding temperature changes from about 20 to 45°C have a significant effect on the Nusselt number at a fixed Reynolds number. The Nusselt number increase is around 50% with a decreased liquid feeding temperature from 45 °C to 20 °C for water at Re ≈ 600. For pure ethylene glycol and Dowtherm 4000, the Nusselt number increases around 100% and 80% with a decreased liquid feeding temperature from 45 to 20°C at Re ≈ 30, respectively.

In this study, the effect of the tube material on the thermal stress generated in a vertical shell and tube heat exchanger is investigated. Shell and tube heat exchangers are the most common heat exchangers used in industries. One of the most common failures in these exchangers in the industry is the tube failure at the junction of the tube to tubesheet. When the shell side and the tube side fl...
متن کاملHeat transfer enhancement due to air bubble injection into a horizontal double pipe heat exchanger
If an air flow is injected into a liquid fluid, many ambulant air bubbles are formed inside the fluid. Air bubbles move inside the liquid fluid because of the buoyancy force, and the mobility of these air bubbles makes sizable commixture and turbulence inside the fluid. This mechanism was employed to enhance the heat transfer rate of a horizontal double pipe heat exchanger in this paper. Howeve...
متن کاملVapor Shear Effects on Falling-Film Mode Transitions Between Horizontal Tubes
A liquid falling between horizontal tubes can take the form of droplets, jets, or a continuous sheet mode, depending on the flow rate. The so-called falling-film flow regime is important to heat and mass transfer, and to maintaining wetted-surface conditions in a falling-film tube bundle, and the performance of such tube bundles is important in many air-conditioning systems. In this paper, we r...
