Inhibitory effect of somatostatin on gastric acid secretion and serum gastrin in dogs with and without duodenogastric reflux.

چکیده
The hypersecretion of gastric acid in response to pentagastrin, caused by duodenal reflux, was tested in dogs. An infusion of 0.25 micrograms/kg/h was found to restore the raised responses seen in the reflux dogs to control levels. Somatostatin was a strong inhibitor of pentagastrin-stimulated acid secretion and of gastrin release, but it was a weak inhibitor of histamine. These studies suggest that somatostatin may have played a part in acid homeostasis.

Effect of esophagus distension on gastric blood flow, gastrin and somatostatin secretion in rat
Abstract Introduction: There are many studies about the inhibitory effect of the esophageal distention (ED) on gastric motility. Recently, it has been shown that ED decreases the gastric secretions. It is well established that the inhibitory effect of ED is mediated by activation of vago-vagal inhibitory reflex. However, there is not any investigation about the effect of the reflex on the gast...
متن کاملSuppression of somatostatin release by duodenogastric reflux in dogs.
The effect of duodenogastric reflux on systemic and portal venous blood concentrations of somatostatin has been studied in the dog. Duodenogastric reflux suppressed somatostatin concentrations in both systemic and portal venous blood, but this did not occur when bile alone was diverted into the stomach. The suppression was also much less marked when truncal vagotomy accompanied the reflux. Thes...
متن کاملGastric acid secretion in uraemia and circulating levels of gastrin, somatostatin, and pancreatic polypeptide.
Basal circulating levels of gastrin, somatostatin, and pancreatic polypeptide were measured in 30 chronic haemodialysis patients. Five patients had considerably raised serum gastrin (greater than 400 pmol/1) and also gastric achlorhydria while 75% of the patients who had normal (less than 55 pmol/1) or moderately increased (less than 400 pmol/1) serum gastrin had raised maximal acid outputs. Pa...
متن کاملNeural, hormonal, and paracrine regulation of gastrin and acid secretion.
Physiological stimuli from inside and outside the stomach coverage on gastric effector neurons that are the primary regulators of acid secretion. The effector neurons comprise cholinergic neurons and two types of non-cholinergic neurons: bombesin/GRP and VIP neurons. The neurons act directly on target cells or indirectly by regulating release of the hormone, gastrin, the stimulatory paracrine a...
متن کاملFunctional changes in acid secretion produced by duodenogastric reflux.
The effects of duodenal reflux on gastric secretion have been examined in dogs. Acid secretion during pentagastrin stimulation increased by 68% in animals with chronic diversion of duodenal contents into the stomach. This increased acid secretion did not occur when bile alone was diverted into the stomach and could be abolished by vagotomy. The hypersecretion observed with pentagastrin did not ...
