چکیده

MLL gene rearrangements are associated with an extremely poor prognosis in infants with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), but little is known about their clinical significance in older children. Therefore, we studied 45 cases of childhood ALL with abnormalities of chromosome 11q23 for rearrangement of the MLL gene to determine if this feature confers a uniformly poor prognosis. MLL gene rearrangements were detected in all 18 cases with the common t(4; 11). t(9; l l ) or t(11;19) translocations, whereas only 5 of 12 patients with either unbalanced or uncommon balanced translocations demonstrated a rearrangement. Abnormalities of the MLL gene were not detected in any of the 15 cases with a deletion or inversion of the chromosome l lq23 region. The presence of an MLL rearrangement was significantly associated with age less than 1 year (P < .001), leukocyte count >50 x lo9/

Detection Of 11q23 Gene Rearrangement In Children With Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia And Its Association With Demographic Data and Response To Initial Chemotherapy On The Seventh Day Of Induction

Background: Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most common form of childhood cancer leading to cancer-related death in children. Most infants with ALL harbor recurring structural chromosomal rearrangements that are important initiating events in leukemogenesis but are insufficient to explain the biology and heterogeneity of the disease. Mixed-lineage leukemia-rearrangement (MLL-rearrange...

Expression Analysis of Foxo3a Gene in Pediatric Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in Southern Iranian Population

Background: Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), the most common childhood cancer with a peak incidence in children from 2-5 years old, might be associated with poor prognosis and resistance to therapy in specific cytogenetic backgrounds. FoxO3a, a member of the forkhead class ‘O’ (FoxO) transcription factors, is a main downstream target of PI3K/AKT pathway which regulates different ...

Prognostic Value of EVI1 Expression in Pediatric Acute Myeloid Leukemia: A Systematic Review

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) as a distortion of blood cells involves the differentiation of hematopoietic stem cells. Several studies established the irregular overexpression of specific genes is a common finding in patients with AML. The ectopic viral integration site-1 (EVI1) gene is a proto-oncogene subject to alternative splicing, and encodes a zinc-finger protein that acts as a tr...

Presenting Clinical and Laboratory Data of Childhood Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

Abstract Background Leukemia is the most prevalent childhood cancer and Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) constitutes 75% of all cases. The most frequent presenting symptoms are fever, weight loss and pallor. Early detection of clinical symptoms positively affects timely diagnosis. The objectives of the present study were to assess frequency of presenting symptoms, laboratory data, immune ph...
