چکیده

In this paper the hardware implementation of an inner hair cell model is presented. Main features of the design are the use of Meddis' transduction structure and the methodology for Design with Reusability. Which allows future migration to new hardware and design refinements for speech processing and custom-made hearing aids.

Therapeutic potential of cell therapy in the repair of hair cells and spiral ganglion neurons: review article

The mammalian cochlea is a highly complex structure which contains several cells, including sensory receptor or hair cells. The main function of the cochlear hair cells is to convert the mechanical vibrations of the sound into electrical signals, then these signals travel to the brain along the auditory nerve. Auditory hair cells in some amphibians, reptiles, fish, and birds can regenerate or r...

Modeling pulse train stimulation of electrically stimulated auditory nerve fibers

Auditory nerve fibers (ANFs) encode the synaptic input from the inner hair cells into afferent spiking information that is thereafter processed by the different nuclei in the auditory system. If the hair cells in the inner ear are degenerated and therefore not able to provide synaptic input to ANFs, cochlear implants (CIs) can be used to stimulate the ANFs (spiral ganglion cells) directly with ...

Does the Apical Organ of Corti act as an Electromechanical Transistor?

The inner ear not only transduces sound-induced vibration into electrical signals, it also amplifies weak sound to boost its detection. The actuators of this active process are sensory outer hair cells in the organ of Corti, whereas the inner hair cells ensure that the sound-induced signals reach the auditory nerve. However, how the outer hair cells modulate the stimulus to the inner hair cells...

Static length changes of cochlear outer hair cells can tune low-frequency hearing

The cochlea not only transduces sound-induced vibration into neural spikes, it also amplifies weak sound to boost its detection. Actuators of this active process are sensory outer hair cells in the organ of Corti, whereas the inner hair cells transduce the resulting motion into electric signals that propagate via the auditory nerve to the brain. However, how the outer hair cells modulate the st...

Imaging hair cell transduction at the speed of sound: dynamic behavior of mammalian stereocilia.

The cochlea contains two types of sensory cells, the inner and outer hair cells. Sound-evoked deflection of outer hair cell stereocilia leads to fast force production that will enhance auditory sensitivity up to 1,000-fold. In contrast, inner hair cells are thought to have a purely receptive function. Deflection of their stereocilia produces receptor potentials, transmitter release, and action ...
