چکیده

The increasing complexity of Micro Total Analysis Systems (μTAS) is leading to a growing need for layout verification. Currently, verification involves numerical simulation, which is slow, memory consuming and impractical for large designs. An alternative is to couple layout extraction with emerging schematic-based simulation for verification of complex designs. This paper reports on a prototype μTAS layout extractor which automatically constructs a schematic from a given layout. The extractor presented is capable of handling non-Manhattan and curved geometry and includes recognition heuristics specific to μTAS designs. The utility of the extractor is demonstrated using selected designs.

Layout Extraction for Integrated Electronics and MEMS Devices

Lumped parameter simulators are increasingly being used for schematic-based MEMS design. However, as layout continues to be the design representation of choice for MEMS manufacturing, layout verification is crucial. Schematic-based simulation tools can be used for this verification through the extraction of the schematic from the layout representation. Furthermore, integrated MEMS needs combine...

An Extraction-Based Verification Methodology for MEMS

Micromachining techniques are being increasingly used to develop miniaturized sensor and actuator systems. These system designs tend to be captured as layout, requiring extraction of the equivalent microelectromechanical circuit as a necessary step for design verification. This paper presents an extraction methodology to (re-)construct a circuit schematic representation from the layout, enablin...

MEMS Component Extraction

Surface micromachined structures are composed of atomic elements like anchors, beams and fingers, which can be further grouped into components like springs, comb drives and plates. Automatic recognition of these elements and components is crucial for a structured design methodology in MEMS (Microelectromechanical system). As MEMS design tends to be layout-centric, design evaluation requires ext...

Top-Down Design of MEMS

A top-down design flow for suspended MEMS is described, starting with schematic capture of a design topology, followed by behavioral simulation, layout generation, parasitic extraction, and final verification. Support for this flow requires a MEMS hierarchical circuit representation and mapping of process, materials properties, design rules, and parasitic parameters into appropriate technology ...

Challenges in CMOS-MEMS Extraction

CMOS micromachining processes are being increasingly used to fabricate integrated MEMS devices. Verification of such designs requires extraction from layout to mixed domain circuits and MEMS schematics for lumped parameter simulation. The higher etch hole density and multilayer interconnect in CMOS-MEMS designs results in a larger and more complex problem than in polysilicon MEMS. In addition, ...
