Extra cranial Schwannomas of Head and Neck
نویسنده
چکیده
Schwannomas are benign slow growing tumors that arise from the Schwann cells of any nerve (peripheral, cranial or autonomic). It also called nerilemmona, neurinoma spindle cell tumor etc. Extra cranial Head and Neck schwannomas usually present as solitary and well demarcated lesions. The lesion can cause secondary symptoms such as nasal obstruction, dysphagia and hoarseness, depending upon the location of the lesion. All patients with head and neck schwannomas treated in our department from April 2008 to dec.2010 were reviewed. Most of cases (3 cases) presented with neck swelling. Preoperative diagnosis may be aided by FNA,computed tomography and MRI. The main stay of treatment is complete intracapsulor excision with preserving the nerve of origin.

Head and Neck Nerve Sheath Tumors: A 10-Year Evaluation in Iran
Background and Objective: Approximately 45% of benign peripheral nerve sheath tumors (PNST) occur in head and neck regions. Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNST) are less common and only 8-15% of these tumors occur in head and neck region. In this study, we aimed at evaluating the demographic characteristics, pathologic findings, locations, main clinical presentations and family h...
متن کاملSchwannoma of the Brachial Plexus: A Rare Case Report
Introduction: Brachial plexus schwannomas are extremely rare tumours of the head and neck region accounting for less than 5 % overall. Due to its rarity and anatomic complexity of the brachial plexus, schwannomas in this region present a diagnostic and surgical challenge to the surgeon. Case Report: We present a case of a 56-year-old female who presented with a slow gr...

chwannomas are tumon arising Ilom the myelin-producing Schwann cells of the peripheral sensory nervous system. Of those occuning in the head and neck region, most are infracranial. lnvolvement of cranial nerves containing motor fibers alone is uncharacteristic. Schwannomas of the l2th cranial nerve are rare, with most originating intracranially, although some may extend extracranially with prol...
متن کامل[Rare extracranial localizations of the head and neck schwannomas].
INTRODUCTION Schwannomas are tumors of neurogenic origin, that arise from Schwann cells which surround peripheral, cranial and autonomic nerves. Schwannomas account for only 5% of all benign soft tissue tumors, and 25-45% of extracranial schwannomas are present in the head and neck region. They are usually classified according to the nerve of origin and the site within the head and neck. CASE...
متن کاملTwo rare schwannomas of head and neck
UNLABELLED Twenty-five to 45 percent of all schwannomas occur in the head and neck. Most of them arise along the vestibular portion of the eighth cranial nerve (acoustic neurinoma). They rarely originate from the peripheral facial nerve or other nerves within the parotid gland. Less than 4% of schwannomas involve the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses. They arise from the branches of the trigem...
