چکیده

Use of loop aiding for facilitating the operation of GPS receivers in weak SNIR environments has been widely researched in recent years. Locata, a terrestrial radio navigation system working on similar principles as GPS, can also make use of loop aiding techniques with some additional advantages. Locata employs dual-frequency and dual-antenna transceivers (LocataLites) allowing a Locata rover receiver to track four signals from each LocataLite. This paper proposes that the carrier tracking loops (CTL) tracking these signals adaptively aid each other to maintain lock in weak signal and moderate dynamics environment. Performance of this proposed scheme is evaluated and an analytical description and test results of the proposed scheme are presented. Results show that the proposed scheme allows tracking with a loop bandwidth (LBW) of 0.5Hz, operating at 20dB-Hz. A relationship between the aided loop’s total phase jitter and the quality of the signal tracked by the aiding loop is also identified and analysed. Using an analytical approach, it is also shown that a lower bound on the aided loop’s expected performance is predictable. It is also established that, by using inter-loop aiding, the Locata system gains more than similarly aided GPS receivers.

Kalman Filter Based Adaptive Loop Aiding for Performance Improvement in Low CNIR Environments

Carrier tracking in GNSS receivers suffers in environments where platform dynamics, received noise and interference are expected simultaneously. Similar is the case of a Locata receiver which operates on the same basic principles as GNSS receivers. A reduction in tracking loop bandwidth may offer noise rejection, but at the same time it makes tracking more vulnerable to oscillator and platform ...

Adaptive Inter-Loop Aiding for Performance Improvements in Low CNIR Environments

4 Use of inter-loop aiding for improving tracking performance has been widely researched in 5 recent years. However, most of the previously proposed aiding schemes rely on the assumption 6 that the aiding loop remains unaffected by received interference. This paper argues that this may 7 not always be the case. It is likely that the performance of the aiding loop may also degrade in 8 the case ...

An Adaptive INS-Aided PLL Tracking Method for GNSS Receivers in Harsh Environments

As the weak link in global navigation satellite system (GNSS) signal processing, the phase-locked loop (PLL) is easily influenced with frequent cycle slips and loss of lock as a result of higher vehicle dynamics and lower signal-to-noise ratios. With inertial navigation system (INS) aid, PLLs' tracking performance can be improved. However, for harsh environments with high dynamics and signal at...

INS-Assisted High Sensitivity GPS Receivers for Degraded Signal Navigation

This paper proposes a novel architecture for ultra-tight integration of a High Sensitivity Global Positioning System (HSGPS) receiver with an Inertial Navigation System (INS), to address the issue of GPS tracking and positioning in degraded signal environments. By enhancing signal tracking loops in receivers through the use of optimal controllers/estimators and aiding from external source such ...
