Effects of Small Oral Doses of Reserpine on Vascular Responses
نویسنده
چکیده
IN ANIMALS, reserpine depletes tissues of catecholamines, -3 reduces the response of smooth muscle to tyramine,4' 5 and potentiates the action of norepinephrine.4 6, The decreased response to tyramine probably results from depletion, since the action of this sympathomimetic amine appears to be mediated through the release of norepinephrine.4-6 The cause of hypersensitivity to exogenous norepinephrine after reserpine is not known.7 8 It seemed important to determine if the two phenomena, namely, the subsensitivity to tyramine and the hypersensitivity to norepinephrine, occur in men receiving small doses of reserpine orally. Such findings would have important clinical implications.9

متن کاملInfluence of prostaglandin E2, indomethacin, and reserpine on renal vascular responses to nerve stimulation, pressor and depressor hormones.
The effects of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) indomethacin, and reserpine were evaluated in the rabbit renal vascular bed in situ under conditions of controlled blood flow. Intrarenal infusion of PGE2, 0.03 and 0.3 microgram/min, decreased responses to renal nerve stimulation, intra-arterial norepinephrine, and angiotensin. Responses to nerve stimulation were decreased to a greater extent than respons...
متن کاملPotentiation of vascular myotropic responses by metanephrine and other noncatecholamines.
Contractile responses of vascular smooth muscle strips (rabbit aorta) to angiotensin, vasopressin and serotonin are potentiated by amounts of metanephrine, ephedrine or tyramine that produce no contractions by themselves. Epinephrine and norepinephrine contractions of aortic strips are not potentiated. Phentolamine and bretylium prevent this potentiating effect of metanephrine and ephedrine; th...
