Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome-associated T-cell lymphoma: evidence for human immunodeficiency virus type 1-associated T-cell transformation.

چکیده
The majority of lymphomas in the setting of acquired, iatrogenic, or congenital immunodeficiencies are B-cell lymphoproliferations. We describe a rare T-cell lymphoma in a fulminantly ill patient infected with human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1). The T-cell nature of the process was defined genotypically (monoclonal T-cell receptor beta-chain [CT beta] rearrangement) and phenotypically (CD45RO+, CD4+, CD5+, CD25+, CD8-, CD3- and negative for a variety of B-cell and monocyte markers). The CD4+, CD25+ (interleukin-2 receptor [IL-2R]) phenotype with production of IL-2 and IL-2R RNA is analogous to human T-lymphotropic virus type I (HTLV-I)-associated adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL); however, no HTLV-1 could be detected. Southern blot analysis did demonstrate monoclonally integrated HIV-1 within the tumor genome. Furthermore, the tumor cells were producing HIV p24 antigen as shown by immunohistochemistry. This is the first case of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS)-associated non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in which HIV-1 infection may have played a central role in the lymphocyte transformation process.

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Cardiomyopathy: A Systematic Review
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection has been associated with cardiac disease, including anatomical or functional disturbance to the heart. Cardiomyopathy (CMP) is one of these disturbances that have been associated with high rates of morbidity and mortality. In this review article, several aspects of potential relationships between HIV infection and cardiomyopathy development have been...

Human T cell leukemia/lymphoma virus (HTLV) , a name originally used to designate a retrovirus associated with a form of mature T cell malignancy, namely adult T cell leukemia (A TL), now stands for a family of human retroviruses isolated in nature, which preferentially infect a subset of T lymphocytes [20]. In addition to their common cell tropism, viruses of this family share other biological...

Human T cell leukemia virus type II (HTLV-lI) has been isolated from a patient (Mo) with features of leukemic reticuloendotheliosis (IRE) and from a patient with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). We have obtained another isolate of HTLV-ll from a patient (CM) with severe hemophilia A, pancytopenia. and a 14-year history of staphylococcal and candidal infections but no evidence of T cel...

Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) developed in a patient with human T-cell leukemia virus type I (HTLV-I)-associated adult T-cell leukemia who was treated with a short-term course of monoclonal antibody immunotherapy. The presentation was transient and temporally related to the underlying clinical course. The association of KS in an HTLV-I infected, but not human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected, indi...
متن کاملEpstein-Barr virus-related oral T-cell lymphoma associated with human immunodeficiency virus immunosuppression.
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is generally held to infect B cells and epithelial cells, although there are now reports of EBV infection in normal T cells and neoplastic T-cell diseases. In patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, EBV is associated with the benign epithelial lesion, hairy leukoplakia, and has been reported in up to 80% of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS)-r...
