The histopathology and biochemistry of rats bearing an adrenocortical tumor.

چکیده
An adrenocortical tumor originating in a female Osborne-Mendel rat was trans planted to intact and adrenalectomized males and to female rats of the same strain. The transplanted tumor grew best in intact males, less in intact females, and least in adrenalectomized males. The following changes characterized the animals bearing this tumor: atrophy of zona fasciculate and zona reticularis of the adrenal cortex; a sharp reduction in urinary sodium excretion, both in intact and adrenalectomized rats; in creased urinary potassium excretion; hypernatremia and hypokalemia. These findings suggest mineralocorticoid secretion by this tumor. Atrophy of the vagina and uterus, and anestrus are among the nonspecific changes due to the presence of the tumor. Polyuria in these rats and its relief with pituitrin may indicate pituitary dysfunction.

متن کاملNonfunctional Adrenocortical Carcinoma with Foci of Osseous Metaplasia in a Young Girl
Nonfunctional adrenocortical carcinoma is an extremely rare malignant tumor in children. Unlike the functional tumor which is detected early due to its hormonal presentation, nonfunctional tumor is detected at a later stage. Here we report a case of a 10 year old girl who presented with abdominal mass and symptoms of short duration. No hypertension and cushingoid features were seen. Serum alpha...
متن کاملAdrenocortical Carcinoma Mimicking Pheochromocytoma: A case Report and Review of Literature
Adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) is an uncommon malignancy originating from cortex of adrenal gland. The most common pitfall in diagnosis of ACC is to distinguish it from pheochromocytoma. Here we report a 62-year-old hypertensive man with presentation of dyspnea. The laboratory data showed an increase in urine cortisol and renin with a mild increase in aldosterone, but decrease in adrenocorticot...
متن کاملPrecocious Puberty Associated with an Adrenal Tumor: A case report
Adrenocortical tumors (ACTs) are extremely rare in infants. Pediatric ACTs are therapeutic and diagnostic challenge because histological criteria for distinguishing benign from malignant tumors seen in adults are not always reliable in children .The aim of this report was to present clinical features, hormonal profile, and histopathological characteristics of an infant with Adrenal tumors. A...

Adrenocortical carcinoma is an uncommon and aggressivemalignancy. Despite a high frequency of metastasis, cutaneousmetastasis of adrenocortical carcinoma is rare with only isolatedcase reports. Its diagnosis can be challenging based solely onhistopathological findings. Yet, the clinical history in combinationwith an immunohistochemical panel consisting of inhibin, vimentin, chromogranin, synapto...
