Removal of the Femoral and Tibial Components for Revision Total Knee Arthroplasty

چکیده

arthroplasty frequently is overlooked as the surgeon concentrates on the planned reconstructive phase of the operation. However, safe and effective implant removal is important for several reasons. First, implant removal can be a time-consuming process, particularly if the surgeon is not familiar with optimal techniques or if the surgeon does not have optimal tools available for the purpose. Second, severe bone loss or bone fracture can occur during implant removal. Marked unnecessary bone loss has a substantial negative impact on the type and quality of the reconstruction that subsequently can be performed. Methods of safe implant removal have advanced dramatically over the last decade, and in most cases today, implants can be removed efficiently and with relatively little bone loss.

Hybrid total knee arthroplasty: 10- to 16-year follow-up.

A cementless femoral component may allow for a smaller surgical incision when a minimally invasive approach is used during primary total knee arthroplasty. Fixation by cement is the gold standard for total knee arthroplasty. The results of cementless total knee arthroplasty are mixed. Cementless femoral components have done well. Although some tibial components have performed well at long-term ...

Unicompartmental Knee Osteoarthritis (UKOA): Unicompartmental Knee Arthroplasty (UKA) or High Tibial Osteotomy (HTO)?

Background: The aim of this review article is to analyze the results of high tibial osteotomy compared to unicompartmental knee arthroplasty in patients with unicompartmental knee osteoarthritis.   Methods: The search engine used was PubMed. The keywords were: "high tibial osteotomy versus unicompartmental knee arthroplasty". Twenty-one articles were found on 28 February 2015, but only eighte...

Micromotion at the tibial plateau in primary and revision total knee arthroplasty: fixed versus rotating platform designs.

OBJECTIVES Initial stability of tibial trays is crucial for long-term success of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) in both primary and revision settings. Rotating platform (RP) designs reduce torque transfer at the tibiofemoral interface. We asked if this reduced torque transfer in RP designs resulted in subsequently reduced micromotion at the cemented fixation interface between the prosthesis comp...

Effect of rotational alignment on outcome of total knee arthroplasty

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Poor outcomes have been linked to errors in rotational alignment of total knee arthroplasty components. The aims of this study were to determine the correlation between rotational alignment and outcome, to review the success of revision for malrotated total knee arthroplasty, and to determine whether evidence-based guidelines for malrotated total knee arthroplasty can be ...

Comparison of Clinical, Functional, and Radiological Outcomes of Total Knee Arthroplasty Using Conventional and Patient-Specific Instrumentation

Background: Recently, patient-specific instrumentation (PSI) systems have been developed in order to increase theaccuracy of component positioning during total knee arthroplasty (TKA); however, the findings of previous studies arecontroversial in this regard. In the current randomized clinical study, the outcomes of computer tomography (CT)-basedPS (patient specific)-guided TK...
