Embolism distal to stenosis of the middle cerebral artery.

چکیده
Fibrin-platelet microembolism in cortical branches distal to stenosis of the middle cerebral artery was directly visualized in a patient with transient ischemic attacks (TIA) and was histopathologically confirmed. Cerebral microembolism may produce TIA in patients with stenosis of the middle cerebral artery and may influence the success of the extracranial-intracranial bypass operation in treatment of these patients.

MITRAL STENOSIS COMPLICATED BY RENAL ARTERY EMBOLISM
Six patients with mitral stenosis complicated by renal artery embolism studied prospectively are presented. In five patients there was unilateral and in one patient bilateral renal artery involvement. The diagnosis was confirmed by intravenous pyelography, retrograde pyelography, renal angiography, renal scan or a combination of these. All had atrial fibrillation, proteinuria and elevated ...
متن کاملSimultaneous occurrence and interaction of hypoperfusion and embolism in a patient with severe middle cerebral artery stenosis.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The coincidence of hemodynamic and embolic findings in patients with stroke from large artery stenosis has suggested an interaction of both pathologies. This has emerged into the hypothesis of an impaired washout of emboli in the presence of hypoperfusion. We propose an additional link between both pathologies. SUMMARY OF CASE A 48-year-old woman presented with a recurr...

Background and purpose : Ârterial embolism is one of the most prevalent cause of transient ischemic attack (TÏÂ) and other types of brain ischemias and about 5o% of TÏÂ patiens have vascular stenosis. Therefore the presence of mild atherosclerotic plaques in carotid arteries, as a source of embdlism in causing TÏÂ and other brain strokes are of a great importance. Ïn present study the ...
متن کاملDecreased Cerebral Perfusion in Carotid Artery Stenosis, Carotid Angioplasty and Its Effects on Cerebral Circulation
Two major mechanisms are involved in cerebral ischemia (Mohr et al., 1997). Cerebral perfusion failure may occur as the result of flow reduction mediated by stenosis or occlusive vascular damage such as that arising from atheroma plaques that affect the carotid bulb. Perfusion failure affects the distal territories, and it is known as a watershed infarction. The second mechanism of cerebral isc...
متن کاملTranscranial Doppler sonography monitoring of local intra-arterial thrombolysis in acute occlusion of the middle cerebral artery.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The aim of this study is to report on the use of transcranial Doppler ultrasonography as a noninvasive diagnostic monitoring tool during local intra-arterial thrombolysis in a patient with acute embolic occlusion of the middle cerebral artery. CASE DESCRIPTION We describe a 41-year-old woman with mitral valve stenosis suffering from embolism of the middle cerebral arter...
