Wild birds trade in Dera Ismael Khan and Bannu divisions of Khyber PakhtunKhwa (KPK) Province, Pakistan

Abstract Wildlife trade is a profitable economic activity. Birds are among the most heavily traded animals worldwide, with numerous species threatened by pet trade. The present case study was stretched for period of one year to find out status wild birds’ in Bannu and Dera Ismael Khan Divisions. aimed types species, commercial prices bird, routes, overall income generated from dealers whether licensed or not. Bimonthly visits were conducted interview 52 bird dealers/pet shops owners/venders (23 29 Bannu). A sum 16 conceivable sites visited during period. Out these, 8 located Division. highest priced Demoiselle crane (Grus virgo) lowest house sparrow (Passer domesticus). Total number both regions 14 while amounting PkR 1,322,200 7,128,950 respectively. Majority birds trapped locally exception few adjacent areas. Commercial activity led illegal traders found 75% 100% There no significant difference between birds, sold two divisions.
