Why biogeographical transition zones matter

چکیده

Abstract Biogeographical transition zones are areas of overlap, replacement or partial segregation between different biotas, which sets taxa sharing similar geographical distributions as a result common evolutionary history and ecological affinities. Transition occur in few particular the world where historically contingent processes have allowed biotic elements to coexist interact. Evolutionary historical biogeographers traditionally characterized by overlap elements. More recently, authors applying track analyses detected presence nodes conflicting results cladistic biogeographic analyses. Ecological taken approach, usually quantitative methods, for example, species turnover indices analyse strength breadth zones. Some consider represent outstanding analysing principles shaping assembly, whereas others dismissed them, sometimes artificial. particularly interesting truly integrative biogeography, being natural laboratories interaction can be analysed fruitfully, especially appropriate an epistemologically grounded pluralism. A coherent conceptual framework zones, however, is still lacking.

Why subduction zones are curved

[1] We give an explanation for the polarity, localization, shape, size, and initiation of subduction zones on Earth. By considering a soft, thin, curved lithospheric cap with either elastic or viscous rheology supported by a thick, nearly incompressible mantle, we find two different characteristic subduction geometries arise depending on boundary conditions: (1) plate boundaries where subductio...

Why dysfibrinogenaemias still matter.

Thromb Haemost 2009; 102: 426–427 Congenital abnormalities of fibrinogen that result in functional defects have been important in discoveries of structure-function relations for this protein and correlations with thrombosis and bleeding, and more than 450 such so-called dysfibrinogenaemias have been identified, although most have only been characterised very superficially. Much is now known abo...

Why case reports matter

Our era is undoubtedly the era of “big data.” This digitized data is everywhere, but in thepracticeof arthroplastysurgery thisera ismost evident in how we commonly learn about surgical outcomes e joint registries, administrative databases, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ Hospital Compare website. By collating or sampling “big data,” the potential bias of anecdotal results is dilu...

Why precursors matter.

Cancer precursors are the tissue antecedents of cancer. They are distinguished from biomarkers in that they reflect a morphologic as opposed to a merely biochemical or genetic association with a specific cancer. Precursors to cancers are increasingly recognized as universal, relevant to carcinogenesis, and providing a unique potential for primary and secondary prevention. As the molecular, imag...
