Wholly Biobased Polyamide Thermoplastic Elastomer‐Cellulose Nanocomposites

Polymers play a prominent role in daily lives; however, there is growing concern on the depleting fossil resources triggering research for sustainable alternatives. Here, novel wholly biobased nanocomposites are prepared from polyamide 36,36 (PA36,36) thermoplastic elastomer and cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs). Further, influence of CNC addition loading morphological features, thermal mechanical properties PA36,36 studied. The presence affects degradation PA36,36. additions 10 30 wt% CNCs to improve tensile strength Young's modulus by up 700% 750% 9.6 6.8 MPa, respectively, while still maintaining relatively high elongation at break values. hardness polymer increases significantly after inclusion CNC. PA36,36/CNC also show good resilience when exposed 100% strain. Overall, these can be potential alternatives some existing rubbers with low or medium hardness.
