What you hear first, is what you get: Initial metrical cue presentation modulates syllable detection in sentence processing

چکیده
Auditory rhythms create powerful expectations for the listener. Rhythmic cues with same temporal structure as subsequent sentences enhance processing compared irregular or mismatched cues. In present study, we focus on syllable detection following matched rhythmic Cues were aligned at (low-level cue) accented (high-level level. A different group of participants performed task without to provide a baseline. We hypothesized that unaccented would be faster after low-level cues, and high-level There was no difference in depending whether sentence preceded by cue. However, results revealed priming effect cue heard first. Participants who first detect than syllables, syllables The low-level-first showed between syllables. baseline experiment confirmed hearing removed benefit grouping These suggest initially perceived influenced perception its influence detection. Results are discussed terms dynamic attending, context effects, implications effects neural entrainment.

Neuroscience: What You See and Hear Is What You Get
The brain receives signals from a variety of sources; for example, visual and auditory signals can both indicate the direction of a stimulus, but with differing precision. A recent study has shed light on the way that the brain combines these signals to achieve the best estimate possible.

This paper corrects three widely held misunderstandings about Maxent when used in common sense reasoning: That it is language dependent; That it produces objective facts; That it subsumes, and so is at least as untenable as, the paradox-ridden Principle of Insufficient Reason.

Recent studies emerged the need for representations of frequent itemsets that allow to estimate supports. Several methods have been proposed that achieve this goal by generating only a subset of all frequent itemsets. In this paper, we propose another approach, that given a minimum support threshold, stores only a small portion of the original database from which the supports of frequent itemse...
متن کاملWhat You Hear Is What You Get: Audio-Based Video Content Analysis
Audio-based video event detection on user-generated content (UGC) aims to find videos that show an observable event, such as a wedding ceremony or a birthday party. In a lower tier, audio concept detection aims to find a sound or concept, such as music, clapping or a cat’s meow. Different events are described by different sounds. The difficulty of video content analysis on UGC lies in the lack ...

Spreadsheets are heavily employed in administration, financial forecasting, education, and science because of their intuitive, flexible, and direct approach to computation. In previous work we have studied how an explicit representation of the background knowledge associated with the spreadsheet can be exploited to alleviate usability problems with spreadsheet-based applications. The SACHS syst...
