Variance estimation in two-step calibration for nonresponse adjustment
نویسندگان
چکیده
Rota and Laitila (2015) suggest an alternative two-step calibration estimation resulting from combining two approaches, i.e., linear (Särndal Lundström, 2005) propensity score (Chang Kott, 2008), when the functional form of response probability is assumed to be known. The first step focuses on estimating this function second total a survey variable. This paper extends these previous findings by deriving approximate variance expression suggesting estimator for estimator. also justifies use sample-level auxiliary information in estimation, deferring population-level estimation. Simultaneous Calibration and Nonresponse Adjustment
Single and joint inclusion probabilities are generally available and known for complex survey designs up to the point where survey weights are modified due to nonresponse and population controls. Best practice by sophisticated survey practitioners generally includes weight modifications, first by calibration, ratio adjustment or raking to correct for nonresponse, next by further steps to impose...
متن کاملLatent Variable Models for Nonresponse Adjustment and Calibration
Traditional weight adjustments for survey sampling error are often constructed through multiple stages, where design weights are based on the inverse of the probability of selection, and in a separate stage nonresponse adjustments are derived from weighting cells or classes, or based on model-deduced response propensities. More recent efforts by Little and Vartivarian (2003) have advocated the ...
متن کاملParadata for Nonresponse Adjustment
Survey researchers and practitioners use nonresponse adjustment weights to mitigate the effects of survey nonresponse on sample estimates. One challenge in creating these weights is finding useful auxiliary data that predict both the probability of participating in the survey and the survey variables of interest. This article reviews the use of paradata for nonresponse adjustment. Five differen...
متن کاملHow Much of Interviewer Variance Is Really Nonresponse Error Variance?
Kish’s (1962) classical intra-interviewer correlation (ρint) provides survey researchers with an estimate of the effect of interviewers on variation in measurements of a survey variable of interest. This correlation is an undesirable product of the data collection process that can arise when answers from respondents interviewed by the same interviewer are more similar to each other than answers...
متن کاملA unified approach to linearization variance estimation from survey data after imputation for item nonresponse
Variance estimation after imputation is an important practical problem in survey sampling. When deterministic imputation or stochastic imputation is used, we show that the variance of the imputed estimator can be consistently estimated by a unifying linearize and reverse approach. We provide some applications of the approach to regression imputation, fractional categorical imputation, multiple ...
