Training game localisers online: teaching methods, translation competence and curricular design

Video games have become one of the most popular forms entertainment in modern digital society. The global success game industry has fostered development localisation industry, as developers and publishers strive to sell their different languages territories maximise return on investment. This, turn, been reflected increasing demand for trained localisers who can cope with challenges posed by this emerging type translation meet industry’s needs. Based long-standing experience MA Audiovisual Translation at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, paper focuses pedagogical issues concerning training translators and, specifically, them online, taking into consideration specificities distance education. After briefly presenting an overview its online modality, shifts teaching localisation, focusing competence curricular design, describing tasks that students are asked do. Special emphasis is placed resources tools used provide a collaborative learning education prepares embark career fast-paced technologically-driven industry.
